I have a 51" Hitachi 51F59 CRT television I purchased about a year ago that I calibrated with Digital Video Essentials. It is slightly out of convergence and I'm going to manually converge it in the next few days but it looks very good as is.
I bought a 360 Platinum yesterday due to the President's Day sale and picked up NCAA 07 college football. My TV is showing 720p or 1080i, whichever I have it set at, so I know it's getting the signal. I also tried the Tomb Raider, that car destruction game and that cartoonish fairy-tale type game that had demos loaded on my 360 and they all look decent at best. I'm used to killer graphics and great framerates that my computer supplies (see below) which it seems this 360 can't do. It's hard to believe because the 360 is supposedly faster than the computer I own. I gamed on my 21" Sony CPD-G500 2048x1536 res monitor for years and recently got a 22" LCD 1680x1050 which is VERY clear and sharp.
Do you guys think the lackluster graphics I'm seeing are due to my television or are 360 games, in general, lacking in graphics? I mean, NCAA 07 chugs along when I play in Columbus, OH in the Horseshoe, with the 100,000+ fans. Sure, when I do an instant replay and zoom up the guys look good, but when I'm playing I 100% couldn't tell if it were 480p or 1080i...it looks that bad. The Tomb Raider game looked good, but ran pretty slow (guessing 20 fps) and was very "soft" looking. Again, this could be due to a CRT HDTV while my eyes are used to a higher quality 21" CRT or 22" LCD.
With that, is there hope for me with this 360 or did I just waste a couple hundred dollars? I'm am thinking of getting a Mitsubishi HD1000U 720p DLP projector (<$900) and a 106" screen. Maybe then the games will look better. Also, I have a Wii and a regular Xbox hooked up and the 360 doesn't look a whole lot better, which is crazy.
Alright, I've typed enough. Let me know if I'm not alone or if I'm just crazy!
Thanks!
