My old roomie had 5/2 and it was the fastest I've pretty much used work or home. It was great for TV and internet. Getting it installed tomorrow at my new house (5/2), can't wait. 🙂

Does Verizon still use the customer's existing cable infrastructure when installing inside the home? I ask because 56U cable is limited to 300mb/s IIRC. You start increasing the internet speed and it may affect the other services in the home, notably television.

wow, 70mb/70mb, that is crazy, now, i doubt it was 70MBps, but can you confirm it was 70Mbps? if it were 70MBps, thats geting to the maximum write speed of your hard drive, crazy

Customer support huh? Can I have your direct line cause that's my only complaint with fios so far 😉. Other than that I love it!

np

but i just started on Monday and am in training at the moment.

training for 7 weeks, but i will be on the floor soon as a Customer Support Analyst.

i do know one thing tho, verizon is looking to release 100 mb / sec bandwidth very soon and are currently ramping up for gigabit broadband.

which is just flat out crazy.

Gigabit is awesome, but I'd much rather see them work on expanding their coverage.

We got Time Warners ethernet installed this week. 10/10 and I believe it can be tuned to whatever we want. They have a fiber switch a few floors above us and they run Cat 6 down to us.

Can you tell me if they plan to cover south florida soon? Like many, I am very anxious to ditch Comcast for their great service.

Passive optical network.

Too bad verizon is behind the technology curve and will have to replace all their optical gear to move to gig.

That beats dealing with the Comcast and DSL alternatives. Sign me up.

Do they have an actual map of where Fios is available? I'm sick of trying to look it up by phone number or address. The damn form doesn't even work, it says I need a 9 digit ZIP but the text box is limited to 5 characters.

exactly, the guy that sits behind me in training worked for Comcast before starting with Verizon. comcast can't come close to touching the kind of bandwidth fios can offer.

I worked for comcast and RR so far and Verizon is by far the best in terms of the R&D and expectations there setting for themselves.

A friend of mine got FIOS and they ran a new coax line from the little fiber box outside into some box on the side of their house, and then from there into the house's wiring.

SEE, the broadband internet market is a FARCE! Fiber-Optics is teh fuuuturree. They've got thousands of miles of dark lines, too, but they wont turn them on for fear of loosing the ability to over charge for internet access. It's like the god-damned diamond industry, they're not actually rare, they just keep most of them locked up in a bunch of warehouses to drive up demand/cost.

How much does that cost, btw?

theres not enough harddrive space, nor stuff to download if i had 70 down. i just upgraded to 15 down and filled up my hd in like 4 days.

My cable connection already kills my HD. =/ The only thing I would like is more upload, but that's it.
