Yeah, there's a big discussion about it over on BBR's Verizon forum. I tend to agree with those that say that Verizon is posturing more than anything, but pehaps there is that faint glimmer of possibility, that Verizon actually
is looking long-term here (rare for a US corporation), and sees POTS revenues declining into oblivion, and FTTP as a way to alleviate that, by have enough bandwidth to-the-home to offer video services (just like cable!), as well as voice and data and whatever else is interesting.
Indeed, it would be nice to have FIOS. Hope that they would let you run "servers" off of it too, otherwise the connection speeds ("ludicrous speed, captain!") would be largely wasted.
