dunno if this is gonna help ya or hurt ya, but i was at the westminster city coucil meeting this last week. the verison reps had a hearing with the coucil members to inform them of verizon's plans in westminster, ca. they said that it was take them about 1 year. to fully implement the fiber optic cable throughout the city. The example that they used was that it would take 4 hours to dl the movie Finding Nemo with today's broadband and that they could dl the whole movie in something like 15-30 min.

what they had also said was that parts of huntington beach and fountain valley have already been done. i live in HB and tried checking for service tho.... NONE....

Not bad - getting close to, if not exceeding (in actuality, not in theoretical connection max) some of the speeds I saw in the dorms with a T3. However, I don't mind our apartments current 3mb down - 1/3 of a meg a second is plenty fast for most things I do:)

Dangit, my county shows up in red. I guess it's better than it showing up in blue, but not as good as showing up in yellow. Anyone know whether or not the red counties are really accurate?

Holy! If Bellsouth offered it here or Verizon offered here in Raleigh, I would change in a heartbeat.

I put in my Tampa phone number and it said it wasn't available. So I gave them my contact info. I'll drop Roadrunner in a second for this.

The only reason I can fathom is because Keller has new building developments all over the place, as does Rowlett, TX & Wylie, TX. I would think the FTTP thing would be easier to institute before homes were built. Maybe that's why they selected those locations.

And my wife has been bugging me to buy a house in Keller, too! I'll have to examine that option more carefully now! :)

Yeah, there's a big discussion about it over on BBR's Verizon forum. I tend to agree with those that say that Verizon is posturing more than anything, but pehaps there is that faint glimmer of possibility, that Verizon actually is looking long-term here (rare for a US corporation), and sees POTS revenues declining into oblivion, and FTTP as a way to alleviate that, by have enough bandwidth to-the-home to offer video services (just like cable!), as well as voice and data and whatever else is interesting.

Indeed, it would be nice to have FIOS. Hope that they would let you run "servers" off of it too, otherwise the connection speeds ("ludicrous speed, captain!") would be largely wasted.

Why is there never any of these type of deals in chicago... I'm tired of 256k upstream(comcast cable) and undocumented bandwidth limitations...
