I love not having neighbors!
Closest one is over 1/2 mile away, I can barely see the top of their barn.
My house is over 1/4 mile off the road, rarely even hear traffic, unless it's an unusually loud vehicle.
Best part is being able to pee outside ANYWHERE I want, whenever I want! LOL:biggrin:
Where's the clostest hospital?
OP and everyone who lives in the country ... where do you live and how much land do you have? I almost bought an amish-built country home on 40 acres last month. I'm tired of living in a sub-division in a city and am wanting some country living ...
lol i used to have a farm. nobody near me for about half a mile. i loved it. and yes being able to pee outside whenever you want is great! lol
You mounted the bumpers too high on your quad :^P

I'm within a 10-15 minute drive of the Hospital, Mall, Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, 5 different gas stations, 4 grocery stores, a bew pub, and about a dozen chain restaurants.
The only thing I disliked about living in the country in Pennsylvania was the utter lack of connectivity options. We finally got DSL in 2006 and it was a wonderful 800kbit connection.I was so happy when they upgraded us to 1.5mbit!
Sounds like the city is closing in on you.
Yeah, that's the only thing that will suck. We've come to terms with the fact that we'll most likely have no options but a satellite connection on the farm. Oh well, it's not as bad as some people make it seem, as long as you're not doing things where latency comes into play(like gaming).

I live in NC about 45 miles from the coast. Rural area , town has a population of 15K, one stoplight type of town. We have a grocery store, gas station, hardware store and that is about it. If you want anything more than that you have to drive about 15-20 miles. I can walk outside at night and without moonlight it is so dark you could walk into a tree. You can basically do anything you like, if you want to dig a hole in the ground, toss in some hardwood and burn it down to some nice coals and throw on a whole hog , you can do it. If kids go outside they can ride bikes, climb trees, yell and scream till they get tired and nobody will care. Dogs run free without a leash or being tied up, cats do the same if you want. It is just total freedom.
Now the downsides:
You need to be somewhat self reliant. If you call 911 for medical expect it to take upwards of 30 minutes. Calling for police takes about the same amount of time sometimes longer. A lot of people here hunt and have guns that double as protection should it be needed due to the time it takes for police to arrive. Fire department is completely volunteer so your home can burn down before they get to the station and drive out to your home. If your car breaks down and you don't have someone to come get you, you are screwed or you better start walking. Someone could easily live in some of these areas and never see another person. Water is provided by wells , which is nice because it is all you want to use for the cost of electricity but bad because if your pump breaks or freezes in winter you have no water, same for electric outages. Electric outages take much longer to get fixed . Internet is poor, really poor in some areas. My brother can only get 512Kb DSL for the max package, most still use 28K dialup .
You get a lot of freedom but you also have to pay for that freedom by providing yourself the things that cities have.
