Venice Core Help

Hi All,

I just got a new Venice 3800+ today, it is replacing my winne 3500+ that is going to my sister. I installed the new processors in my DFI LanParty UT board .. and it got into windows .. got into the desktop .. then just rebooted. Did this 3 times. So I started looking on the dfi-street site.

Someone had a similar problem, and changed the DRAM Drive to 3. Which I did and it booted into windows no problem. Then I started playing Guild Wars, and about 20 minutes into it the game froze, and then my machine rebooted. When windows came back up, I looked in the error log and say the nv display driver got caught in a loop. I booted up Guild Wars again, and about another 15 minutes into the game .. it just rebooted my machine, no lockup this time.

I am completly at a loss for what could be happening. I'll post my specs here:

DFI LanParty UT nForce4 (3/10 bios)
Amd 64 3800+ (Venice)
Corsair XMS 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 (C2PT) Monarch Link

If anyone has any ideas or help, it would mean alot. Thanks!
Terry

Are you sure that your CPU is seated properly? Are you running at stock speeds or overclocking? What PSU are you using?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but would the board even post if it wasn't seated properly?

Running at stock speeds, and I have a PC Power & Cooling PSU

Sometimes if the heatsink and the CPU aren't seated good it will cause random crashes. Are you only getting crashes when playing games?

Seems to be .. but I'm not sure .. I posted on the dfi boards too. I will put in my old cpu until I figure out the problem

I double checked when I was replacing the cpu .. the processor was seated fine .. and the heatsink had good contact .. so I think from what I've been reading it might some issue with how the processor handles memory, but not really sure.

Maybe see if DFI has a new bios that officially supports the Venice core, if you didn't already. Also check your temps while playing a game, and see if you crash in prime95 or superpi to see if it is a video problem or processor. Memtest is a good way to make sure the memory is working correctly. Good luck man!!

If crashing only occurs in games, uninstall the old vid drivers with driver cleaner and reinstall. I suggest narrowing it down to a video/CPU/memory problem before messing with the drivers though.
