You guys realize ... that no-one stopped him right? No where in the chain of command .. or House Senate, the administration, intelligence agencies... All of them lined up and yessir'.

So technically this opens the door for Trump to grab the big Z in the same manner. You know how he keeps going on about how Ukraine needs to hold elections and Zelensky is a dictator.

Fucking nuts this guys got the keys to the nukes.

It takes time to build a private army?
Their budget only eclipsed the Russian Military when the BBB was passed.
They have the money to dangle in front of people. And there are plenty of Trump voters who want to play gestapo.

Do not underestimate ICE's role, when the JCOS green light unlawful commands.
They violate other countries ad hoc. They sure as hell will violate the United States. With plenty of muscle to back up their coup.

The US attack on Venezuela is more a story of the US and how far we have fallen. This tale is far from over. More people will understand this if they lose an election and once more decide not to accept it.
You have to understand that if there are any shenanigans in the 2028 election in US, as in a coup against a rightful Democrat winner; it would be chaos, a straight up armed rebellion. People aren’t just going to take it lying down, they’ll fight. ICE will get trucked. It would be the dissolution of civilian society otherwise.

MAGA Nazis did not care about the consequences when they tried to depose Congress, tried to murder the VP, and tried to overthrow the 2020 election.
They sure as hell will not care next time now that they are better organized for violence and have built a partisan military force with ICE. In the event they take action, ICE will keep doing what it is now doing. Home invasions and patrolling American streets. The gestapo is formed, they just need an excuse. Such as anyone saying no to their dictatorship.

Ok, so the silver lining here, maybe, is that Trump at least had the sense to just go knock off the guy at the top instead of full blown invasion and killing 5 million people.

So from that perspective, OK. Credit where it's due, this is definitely a better use of the military from a utilitarian perspective than full blown invasion.

OTOH, we might just be about to discover why that doesn't work when you just end up with new guys on top and a bunch of people who now support them out of national pride.

OTOOH we've been told so many times that everything Trump does is going to blow up and ruin everything and it... Kinda hasn't so Trump might be dumb, but I'm starting to wonder if the heads of other nations are actually dumber.
So any Leader in North and South America Countries are free buffet? I don't see the silver lining here AT ALL since no countries in the time zones can stop that from happening. Who is next? Cuba?

And all hell will come down on them. There would be no legitimacy to their actions and they would be extremely vulnerable. The common people will not allow your scenario to be effectuated. They will be routed.

Rodriguez: "We are ready to defend Venezuela. We are ready to defend our natural resources, which should aid our national development"
Rodriguez: "We demand the immediate release of our President, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife Cilia Flores"Rodriguez says that Maduro is still the President of Venezuela.

I think you overestimate the capacity of the general public to act on their outrage. First, ~30% of the public just doesn't care about any of it as long as "Dancing With the Stars" stays on the air. Second, ~30% of the public will be happy about their Orange Jesus installing himself as God Emperor for life.

Sure, there will be lots of strongly worded letters, and shock/concern from everyone including pundits and senators from Maine and Alaska. But in the end, there will be nothing of real consequence done about it.

-Cuba is 100% in the sights, Venezuela provides Cuba with their oil (in exchange for doctors and stuff lol) and there is no way in hell that's still happening at this point.

I believe Mexico's president has been put on notice as well, and Carney is probably a little hot under the collar at this point as well.

Then democracy dies with a whimper? I refuse to accept that. And I’d imagine that other 40% or more will not just let it pass by.

Complete amateur hour: they didn't even bother briefing the appropriate committees.

And from another post, Trump is claiming "inherent constitutional authority" to use the military as he did... why even have a Congress? We should wrap the Founding Fathers in some copper wire to generate free electricity as they roll over at ever increasing speeds in their graves. Never in their wildest dreams would they have ever thought that current House and Senate leaders (ie, Johnson and Thune) would give up their core powers for a lawless executive.

Edit:
"The other post":
Who cares, Congress has been irrelevant this past year anyway.

We have like three or four different versions of what's going on. Including, via Reuters, the accusation from opposition that the regime conspired with Trump to coup Maduro.

LOL have you been paying attention the past 10 years?

Who worth a damn is left to oppose them?
Yeah I have been and I’ve seen it continually be eroded by Trump, the GOP, and the Supreme Court; and enabled by the pretty stupid population.

But if they fuck with the 2028 Presidential Election, they’re gonna find out by lots of people who care.

Venezuela for 51st state!
Dude. The reason that the US is the global superpower is because it's been insulted from global wars that have decimated former global powers.
Your President seems to want to start up a bunch of wars on his own doorstep. Now while this makes a nice change for Europe I would say that it's probably an option that you want to avoid.

You seem to think that public opinion and people's actions are completely immutable and what is happening is simply inevitability, despite all evidence to the contrary.
