Looking for an ELI5 on why USA looks like to be starting a war with Venezuela? Is there one that doesn't involve the Epstein files?

I’d have to ask which billionaires or companies would benefit from such a war.

So "Drill baby drill" is a foreign policy now?

What do you expect from the administration of:

Wind energy causes cancer
Those wanting food assistance/ social security/ medicare/ medicaid/ or affordable healthcare are the "parasitic class"
Those who run ponzi/ crypto/ drug schemes are under assualt so should be pardoned.
Pedophiles are not bad.. they're just misunderstood.

There's a lot more evil left than what you're pointing out still to come.

America's war skill will take a huge plunge if it's not used regularly if video games have taught me anything

Lot of reasons.

  • Oil
  • Monroe Doctrine
  • Remove one of the main players of ALBA
  • Remove a Russian, Chinese, and Iranian Strategic Partner from Latin America
  • Oil

I imagine those like Rubio, Abrams, and others are motivated by the above reasons, whereas Trump likely believes that this will play well with his base and could also serve as a distraction to...other things.

Rubio wants to oust Maduro (replace with US friendly autocrat) and Trump thinks he can steal their oil reserves.

South American here, what I am expect is a Operation Condor 2.0 with all South America become USA colony all over again.

We can’t even run our own country, what the hell are we going to do with a bunch of non English speaking countries? Luckily for you, this admin is about as incompetent as they come.

It's probably a little bit of the oil angle, but a whole lot of the "we need an ongoing war in order to really start using the Alien Enemies Act".

No one in the admin really cares about drugs. Except Don Jr.

Rubio wants to oust Maduro (replace with US friendly autocrat) and Trump thinks he can steal their oil reserves.

These both seem plausible.

We have an enormous defense budget to spend. We have to use up the old stuff so defense contractors can make money making new stuff, same reason for the Gulf War and the invasion of Iraq. Oil is nice but weapons manufacturers drive foreign policy. Our friends to the end in the House of Saud wouldn't be on our Christmas list if they weren't buying weapons.

If we were to unilaterally attack venezuela, the world should label and treat the US as a rogue state

Whatever reason they give for attacking Venezuela (if they do) would be flimsier than the WMD angle of Iraq. Are they going to try to say Venezuela keeps sending "drug boats" so we have to invade them or something?

Meddling in Venezuela and the Honduran election is sending a clear signal that America no longer cares about human rights, free and fair elections or other democratic ideals. Trump is, for better or worse, trying to out-China China and their “belt and road” initiatives. We should be viewing these moves in the context of neo-colonialism.

In other words, “as long as we get paid and our donors become defacto oligarchs in your shithole countries, we don’t care about your shithole politics, shithole drug-financed economies or shithole human rights” (or rather the lack thereof.)

It's totally ridiculous. The world, thanks to us and the Russian issues, is awash in oil. Producers here starting to think the AI build up ain't going to save them.
