the anti-capitalist elite media as well.

The "elite media" are the biggest capitalists and capitalist supporters as well. They ARE big corporations. Who the hell are you talking about? Foxnews?? you righties love to point out that what old people still alive that watch tv for news watch the overwhelmingly dominant station. The right wing one.

You talk radio listeners are so lost. Basically cultists at this point you are so detached from reality.

... does the constitution have a list of reasons we can go to war for and a list of reasons we can't? Attacking our corporations and our interests is very much a reason to go to war, much more so of a reason than any war we've been in in recent times.

So if I started a company, went public here in the USA, and then 99% of my shares were bought up by chinese nationals, am I still an American company?

The US has sent warships to foreign countries back in the day to protect US business interest. Perhaps we should do the same here.

Chavez is a total dick, but the warhawk corporatiest idiots here are a source of amusement. Go to war with another country in order to intercede in a dispute between an American corporation and a foreign government? LOL, that is more extreme than even Dick Cheney.

Comments made here about the risk of doing business in a dangerous and/or unstable political situation are pretty much spot on.

We should be already invading their lands. They have resources we want. Their resources are in the water, where we have superiority. Any sane country would just go in there and take the rigs. Just take it. What can Venezuela do about it? NOTHING! In just one move, we can have all of Venezuela's riches to ourselves. All those oil rigs, all employing hard working American workers.

So when are you signing up your narrow ass to go rape and pillage?

Bait and switch. Do you have a problem with that or are you ok when corporations or even nations do it? They built these platforms under the impression from the Venezuelan government that they would be able to own and operate them. After all is said and done Venezuela decides to say fuck you and take it. That is very much a different thing. This has nothing to do with the UN, but everything to do with Venezuela "attacking" our interests.

Why I'd say retaking the platforms is probably in a legal right, what was the original context of the contracts?

Many South American countries were basically forced into extremely unfair trade agreements (>century long whole sale on their most valuable resources) due to the weak position of these countries on the global power game. Their economies couldn't exist without foreign trade with the major powers, and their militaries could not deal with a blockade or invasion. I'd say you probably should withhold a moral standpoint without knowing if the original deal was something like "You will give us the oil at cutright prices for 100 years. If you don't, we will blockade you until you agree."

Venezuela is going to have major reprecussions anyway. Good luck getting many foreign businesses to deal with them or invest in them now. South American countries have historically been very screwed, but they've also historically made very bad decisions with regards to developing a long-term, stable future. Look how far the Asian tigers came in 50 years, while most of the South American countries are moving more in the direction of Africa than the 1st world.

You're getting ready to be on the front lines i take it? Enlisting shortly? For corperations?

Who said anything about raping and pillaging? 🙄 Just march our aircraft carriers over there and claim all the rigs in Venezuelan waters. Don't need to set a single step on land.

I'm really confused about what you are saying here. The rigs owned by Helmerich & Payne drill for PDVSA (Venezula's national oil company). H & P doesn't sell the oil; they are paid on a contract for the drilling services and rig they provide, and PDVSA gets the oil to sell. So "you will give us the oil" doesn't enter into the equation at all. The had a contract to perform work (drill) and get paid. They performed that work, PDVSA got the oil, but H & P haven't been paid for some of the work that has already been performed.

Venezuela says will pay for nationalized H&P rigs

Rage fail

Yea... from the article:
"Here we pay book value," Ramirez said. "A process begins by which we establish fair price between the two parties."

I wonder what the "book value" is going to be coming from a government that just seized their assets. I somehow doubt it's going to take into the full cost of what they've done / costs that will now have to be incurred... especially in the area of researching new drilling locations.

I guess we'll see if the oil company goes with whatever value they come up with.

I am sure people will shed a big tear for risk they took.

Um, no. Old people get their news from ABC/NBC/CBS and from newspapers. Viewers of FoxNews (and CNN) are adults - although granted we may seem old to snotty-nosed Marxists living with Mommy and demanding that the fruit of others' labor be given to you for your oh-so-awesome trick of existing.

With a globally depressed economy and stable supply of oil. We should embargo VZ oil and let them figure out who else can refine their crude. It will take years before another nation has the refining capacity to deal with their lower grade crude. In the process it would starve the regime and possibly bring it to its knees.
