Disagree. Familiarity breeds contempt, as the saying goes. You are aware of the sins of the West because it is what you know and you take for granted the virtues. You probably know hardly anything about Islamic history aside from superficial virtues. This is akin to the Confederate "Lost Cause" which took hold in the aftermath of the Civil War. There is a temptation to think that the struggle is unnecessary and all it takes for the world to be right is for you to be a nice guy. Your being nice is under your control, while the Muslim being murderous is not.
There likely are fundamental factors within Christianity which leads the fundamentalists to be just tolerant enough of dissent for flourishing to occur, while within Islam the fundamentalists are so hell-bent on getting their way that they stamp out any human flourishing before it gets a chance to take a hold.
Fundamental factors, eh? Let's take the issue of homosexuality to illustrate my point. While they execute gays in some Muslim countries, hardly any Christians support executing gays. Today. Yet Leviticus says that gays must be executed. The reason given by Christians today for not following this commandment is that purportedly the kinder, gentler New Testament takes precedence over the Old Testament laws, which no longer need to be followed. Note that the New Testament says that homosexuality is an "abomination" but says nothing one way or another about punishment.
The problem with how Christians interpret this today is that they executed people for sodomy throughout most of Christian history. This notion that the Old Testament laws need not be followed appears to be of very recent vintage. The Old Testament laws used to be taken quite seriously. The reason for this shifting interpretation is obvious. It has to do with the wider world and culture that Christians now find themselves in. They simply changed their interpretation to accommodate modern, secular values of equality and human rights.
Note that there is conflicting language in the New Testament on the point of whether Old Testament law continues to apply. See Matthew 5:17-19 for a pretty clear statement that it does continue to apply. Note also how modern Christians cherry pick the Old Testament, keeping the "God is love" parts and chucking the rest. Here they are arguing that Old Testament law no longer applies, but the kinder parts of the Old Testament remain relevant.

The fact is, the behavior of Christians has changed just as the west has culturally changed.
Take a look at the Jews as well. They ONLY have the Old Testament which says kill the gays. Yet in Israel gays have full legal rights. If scriptures determine everything, why is that? Because the Jews of Israel are mainly westerners who brought western cultural values with them. If they had only religion and scripture to go on, they'd be killing the gays as well.
I suspect you don't know as much about the history of Islam as you claim. You should provide your sources on Islamic history. If it's legit scholarly work, that's great. If it's a bunch of anti-Islam websites and youtube vids, not so much.
