Vegetarians... Why?

Because it is a choice. Why have I never satisfied my curiosity about doing drugs? Personal choice.

And please remember just because someone is a vegetarian does not mean that we don't like meat some of us just choose not to eat it.

<< Why do you guys deprive yourself of the sweet taste of animals? I just can't understand it. >>

Buahahaha, there's nothing like a good, juciy steak 🙂 And I guess they miss out on shrimp and lobster too...damn shame😀

Actually I would miss out on shrimp and lobster anyway I am allergic to all shellfish which sucks because I still occasionally eat seafood.

<edit>
London broil is the best steak in my opinion.Grilled medium rare with my own secret spice blend.

I've never seen the joy in steak, I'm just not into the taste or texture.

But I did have some damn good center cut pork chops at Outback Steak House the other day. If any of you haven't been there I'd definitely recommend it. Maybe it's just because I live in the Midwest - where men are men, women are blonde and food is bland - but it was one of the most memorable dining experiences in recent memory.

<< I had a sweet succulent thick juicy tender steak for supper today. >>

That's nice Stefan but if you dont get a job in 10 days,You'll be eating Kraft dinner & beans for a while .😉

For the same reason I don't hunt down, kill, cook, and eat some random guy I see walking down the street. As for what that reason actually is, however, I have no idea...

I used to be a vegetarian. Combination of health and ethical reasons. Studies in rats have shown that an ultra low protein diet can double a rats lifespan. Now obviously this may not transfer over to humans, but monks in temples (they are vegetarian) seem to live a very long life span. I doubt it's a coincidence. Also, all mammals have the same basic emotional range as humans IE fear, pain and anxiety, so it's not really ethical to keep animals around waiting to die. Even lab rats know when their time is coming (have a friend who works in a med lab where they cut open live rats for their heart muscle cells).

<but monks in temples (they are vegetarian) seem to live a very long life span> What kind of monks do you mean ? I know a lot of fraternities that are not vegetarian. BTW ultra low protein diet is NOT healthy at all. That's just nonsense.

Buddhist monks. What does a frat have to do with anything?

As for the protein thing, you want to cite a source for me? I can cite my source for you, popular science, 1996 I believe.

I went back and checked this old 1993 popsci and it said low calorie, not protein. Man, my memory is fading even at the ripe age of 21. 😛 Anyways, it said that mammals consistently underfed (not starved) lived longer than their normally fed counterparts.

ever so slightly off topic, but an interesting qoute to share;

"until age 40, Venetian nobleman Luigi Cornaro lived a life of culinary excess. But after that,he subsided on a mere 14 ounces of food a day. Shortly before he died in 1566, at age 102, he published a series of essays explaining his secret: 'Not to satiate oneself with food is the science of health.' "

heh... i can make so many jokes...

anyway, what animals have you been eating that taste sweet...

i eat meat, because i choose to. and when i do not eat meat, that is my choose also. everything in moderation, except for sex and chocolate.

Given a choice between doubling your life span eating vegies or a regular life span with steaks and pork chops, I'll take the steaks and pork chops. Anyway, eat what you want, but don't be a pig.

I'm a vegetarian...for about a year now. I do it only because I feel healthier. I have no qualms about animal slaughter.

I ealt all types of seafood though

I still eat my share of meat. Although for about 2 years i would not touch a hamburger. A friend of mine is a meat cutter for a major supermarket and i watched him grind up hamburger once. Seeing what went into that grinder turned me off ground beef for a long long time!!

That poor little guy 🙁...and that rat os dying to benifit the health of humans...I wonder if the rat knows that....

I dunno...but it is true that having very little or no protein isn't very healthy. A couple of obvious things... protein does wonders for your muscles and skin. Intaking protein also keeps up your metabolism.

fat also ties into this...
Cutting out all fats isn't good either. Get rid of your saturated fats but the body does need some fats (monosaturated?). For example, eating pork rinds (fried pig skin) is healthier than eating potato chips when it comes down to it (neither are healthy for you though). Chips = saturated fat, excessive carbs, salt galore. Pork rinds = fat, no carbs (salt in store-bought stuff).

fish is a good source of good fats/proteins/etc.

edit:
"Mmmmmmmmmmmm.......steak....." - homer simpson 😛

I am vegetarian strictly for health reasons.

I feel so much better, with far more energy on a plant-based diet.

Eating for "taste" alone IMO is not what to base your food choices on any more than choosing to "feel" good by doing drugs. If taste was the sole reason for choosing foods, we'd all be eating ice cream, cake, chocolate and potato chips exclusively (oops, I forgot, many people do).

"Taste" is acquired.

"Protein" from animal sources being healthy for humans is a myth. Plant sources can provide everything necessary for healthy life.

If your are talking about a "normal" lifespan with cancer and heart disease, you can have it.
