First thing, GO CAPS.

Second anyone watching the stanley cup and see the openings. Don't ever recall seeing such over the top openings such as these, Wagner and all. Most of my friends said it reminded them of a night out at Medieval Times. Oh and the name the Vegas Golden Knights not that great imo, just seems awkward. But they are a pretty good team and it looks to be a close series wonder how the caps will tacky it up back at their arena.

It is expected, its Vegas, and they are just so happy to finally have a sports team. Caps will let them have their fun for now.

It's corny and tacky as shit, but it's Vegas and they are putting on a good show.

All of the DC sports radio guys who are in Vegas have said that it looks really dumb on TV but in person it's actually really cool and gets the crowd pumped up.

My wife heard an interview of a few people that create these openings... they said each one is unique and designed to try and pump up the crowd to pump up the team.

I've been keeping up on most of the NHL playoff series... definitely been a good watch. I really think the Kings VS Golden Knights has been the best one so far though, too bad they didn't play each other until at least the conference finals.

Oh yeah, and I don't like the tacky openings either.

I'm pretty sure the intros for the first 2 SCF games were identical.

Or do you mean they are unique per series?

In all fairness too, this isn't THAT far beyond a normal NBA opening sequence. It's virtually WWE levels now.

Pretty much the range of responses I went through watching that, in order.

I love it. I'm new to hockey so it has no solemn, sacred history to be observed in my mind. I live in St. Louis, so I've chosen the Golden Knights as my team and I hope the shows keep getting more spectacular.

I think it's pretty cool. Kinda reminds me of Olympic opening/closing ceremonies, it's always crazy over the top. They might even start a new thing, maybe each team will have their own opening show over time.

I'm kind of vouching for them, would be quite something to see them win the cup being an expansion team, and their first year.

Either story line is great for the NHL.

Vegas wins it's a first year expansion team winning which is unheard of it any major sport. The issue I see with that though is I wonder if the fans will stick around when 3-4 years down the road when they don't even break .500.

Caps win and it's the first Capitals Stanley Cup in history. Last night was their first win ever in SCF. They were swept in the late 90's in their only other showing in the finals. It would also be great that Ovechkin, who is arguably the best goal scorer in the history of the NHL, finally gets his cup. It also ends a DC championship drought since the early 90's.

You might not been around at the time but the 84 closing olympics was probably the best I've ever seen with aliens, flying saucers and 2001: A Space Odyssey music.

Well, he's only ~300 away from Gretzky and about 1 total point less in ppg, but one can have dreams, right? 😉

It looks like he is more clutch, though, and has a slightly higher gpg. Is this where the current talk about Ovechkin passing Gretzky in "goal-scoring" comes from? I don't follow hockey much anymore, but I did hear that the other night on the radio, and was like, wtf? Bro you're drunk....

I also thought he was close to retirement--was strongly considered that he was going to over the last two years? I guess if he manages to stay in the league long enough, and keeps up that pace, it's doable, right?

Also, the current rules era allows for more goals per game, doesn't it? Don't they still allow goals when an offensive player is in the crease? I believe this was outlawed through much, if not all of Gretzky's career. It's the opposite of the "Babe Ruth" effect when comparing numbers to modern rules. Dude played in an era when today's "ground rule double" counted as a home run. 😀

The one time I tried to watch it I tuned out shortly after seeing the Knight. It does seem reasonable because "Vegas", but I can't watch it.

There are multiple factors that come into play when discussing GOAT when it comes to goal scoring, including the era. It's kind of like how comparing QB's in the NFL from the 90's to now is almost not comparable due to the way the game has changed.

Here's a quick article I found when talking about him as the GOAT in goal scoring.

It's 2 years old but you can probably find more recent ones if you looked hard enough.

And again, I said "arguably" so it's definitely up for debate either way.
