AMD has maintained from the start that the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition is not aimed at gamers, but at “data scientists, immersion engineers, and product designers.” What that translates into is a card that, in theory, gives professionals more performance for the money than the pricey Nvidia Quadro competition.

One machine featured the current GeForce Titan Xp, while the second machine ran one of the first the air-cooled production-level Radeon Vega Frontier Edition cards AMD has built.

Is the intended Quadro competition equal in performance to the Titan Xp?

• AMD still using SPECviewperf to compare Vega Frontier Edition to NVIDIA TITAN Xp, when Quadro P4000 has them both beat.
• I don't know what to say about Cinebench OpenGL; I don't see this benchmark in common usage for the latest generation of GPUs.
• A bit more than a month since AMD Financial day, and performance in Sniper Elite 4 is still only close to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.

IIRC, according to those benchmarks, the 900$ Quadro P4000 beats the Vega FE, while drawing much less power.

Apparently, it's not performing as well as expected compared to Polaris based WX GPUs either, which is really strange...

There is AMD Vega Frontier Edition (1200 and 1800 USD), and there is NVIDIA Quadro:

• P4000: ~900 USD
• P5000: ~2000 USD

You can take a look at SPECviewperf results and search Quadro P5000 entries.

You're likely confused because AMD keeps pitching Vega Frontier Edition for professional work (SPECviewperf), when other cards are much better suited: NVIDIA Quadro and AMD Radeon Pro WX

imo Radeon Vega FE is looking more like AMD's attempt at a Titan card. This card is neither a PRO WX card which comes with fully certified and optimized drivers and nor a RX Vega card which comes at a lower and more reasonable price point. The only difference between RX Vega and Vega FE is the extra 8GB HBM2 on the Vega FE. If Radeon Vega FE is a Pro card then AMD should be comparing against the GP102 based Quadro P6000.

The FE sits in the same awkward place as the Titans. It isn't a pro card and it is at the far end of the diminishing returns curve for actual performance making it a bad deal for pretty much everyone. I don't begrudge AMD for trying to get in on the spare-no-expense money train like nVidia has been doing with the Titans but it certainly doesn't look great after this long wait for both a new architecture and a top-tier competitive architecture.

I must have missed that, or the reports I read didn't have a clear date or were somewhat vague about it being later this summer or something to that effect.

IIRC, they said it would release "around SIGGRAPH", a month ago. This is an exact date since SIGGRAPH is Jul 30 - Aug 3. Probably a paper launch though as I do not expect one to simply walk into Microcenter on Sunday July 30 and get an RX Vega.

If AMD Makes 3 card (RX Vega , Vega Frontier , Vega Pro ) , Then what's big Issue?
1) If It's barely faster than WX series, then AMD will launch new Vega for Professional Market.No Issue.
2) If It's barely faster than GTX 1080 , then AMD Launch RX Vega for Gaming purpose ( to compete GTX 1080Ti) , No Issue

I get the impression that part of the Vega FE's mission is to get into as many game developer's hands as possible before the consumer cards are launched. I'm sure that certain customers will get really good deals.
