VCR question

Trying to play a cassette recorded in PAL system. It doesn't play right. Using ATI VIVO card. Do I need a PAL VCR? Can't I play with the NTSC VCRs here?

Yup, need a PAL VCR. Might be able to borrow one from the college library, otherwise I wouldn't know where you might find one outside of a video production house that has one around for odd projects.

There's plenty of multi-system VCRs on the market. They can do conversion, etc. Not cheap tho. If you had a PAL VCR you can set the video in on the ATI to PAL and watch the stuff. I've done this b4 with my old AIW Pro.

Don't know where you live but here, there are a number of companies that will convert it for you. Runs around $20.

Thank you all. I think college thing is the best solution for me at this time since I don't want to spend money on this.

I'm sorry if I come out sounding dumb but what is PAL? ... are they RCA jacks or the Cable box jack that u plug ur cable into? I think they call that thing Composite or sth?

I'm no expert on this but PAL is the video display format used in Europe and other places... it has a different resolution than NTSC (US, Japan, others) so they're incompatible.

not only that but the framerates are fifferent...

I think we have 320x240 @ 27fps

Pal is 640x480 @23 fps...

3:2 Pulldown would be the answer...but then again you are dealing with a tape not DVD
