I don't understand this, what does a persons post count matter? I have uhh 5,000 or something. If it resets I'll have zero. I guess having a tag of Lifer is that important to some. Personally I never look at a persons post count.

Maybe both the post count and the join dates will be reset so everyone can start on even playing field.

Post count is an important part of ATOT culture. As someone who has supposedly been here since 2002, you should know that. I know it. I love it. You should fall in line along with everyone else. You'll feel better if you do. I promise.

I think your join date should be more important than your post count. We all don't have the time to sit here and nef 16 hours a day.

They should retain join dates. Those that have hung around should be known as so but post counts I don't see as important as join date. I don't understand why anyone cares about a high post, its not like this place focus's on quality posts. How cares if you can nef all day?

You need both to quickly judge somebody.

A person who has been around a while could have signed up and visited the page once in 5 years. A person who posts a lot (no matter the quality) obviously spend some time on the site.

It's an achievement of sorts, and it kind of sucks to lose it. It's like watching your odometer roll over to all 0s, or all the same number. It isn't a big deal, and the world will keep on spinning with 0 post count, but it still kind of sucks.

I tried to grab a screen capture, but the new board is down at the moment while they're testing some functionality. If you happen to browse through the April Fool's thread, Oldsmoboat posted an actual screen shot of the new forums.

Fuck the post counts. If that's your message of meaning something to AT, then you and others need to find a new meaning...

Its not my meaning, I just think that post count does have value in determining the quality of a user. Like I said earlier, somebody could have signed up 10 years ago, visited the page once since then. Sign up date != quality of user. Obviously a person who signed up yesterday and has 500 posts is a neffer. But if you see somebody who's been here for 5 years and has a few thousands posts, then you know they've been involved in the forums for a while. It gives them a bit more credibility.

I vote the new AT have no post counts period, do away with the stupid system all together. Culture is overrated anywho.

Ooo.. and maybe we can change Anandtech from a tech site to a site that covers the mating patterns of Galapagos turtles!

I'm guessing the post counts shouldn't be corrupted, providing that the forum database remains intact during the migration process.

I agree. To help remedy the issue i think they should just not count posts in OT. It certainly wouldn't be a cure all but the 20,000 post neffing threads definitely are not helping the situation.

Post count in OT has meaning in a different way. There are many wonderful users who post primarily on OT and their post count has meaning there. Perhaps we need two post counts. A technical and off topic.
