Hmm, I haven't noticed what Toyota mentioned, but I have seen that sometimes you dial in a round number like 100 and you get an actual boost of 99, or something like that, but that's usually when the card is approaching its limits. Punching in 100 on my card takes me straight from 1110 to 1210, and 150 gives me 1260.

Congrats - I look forward to your results. If you have a chance to bench before the upgrade, make sure to get minimums as well as averages. I've also down some GPU usage and CPU load screenshots to get an idea of how the two interact.

Thanks
I have a thread I made with this system from when I switched from an unlocked HD 6950 to the GTX 670. Gonna use those results to get a baseline for compare. I'll make a thread and include the numbers from this system and my Ivy system. Shouldn't take longer than part of a day to get it set up and situated, stability testing when I overclock will be another matter to attend to when I get there.

Anyway I'll have something up, hopefully this weekend if everything goes smoothly.

Same card, stock clocks with an i5-2300

This processor is perfectly fine for day-to-day stuff (and gaming) but man, it really comes up lacking in the benchmark department.

I have an Asrock Z77, maybe I'll jump on IB on a good sale.

btw what is your idle fan speed? mine is 40% but a guy on another forum says his 670 FTW card has a 30% idle fan speed.

30% @ 40c via the drivers and BIOS. I use a fan profile so it idles around 40%

so 30% out of the box? I wonder why mine is at 40%?

What is the ambient temp and the temp of the card at idle? If it's above 45C, I could see it automatically ramping up to about 40%. Just go ahead and set a fan profile to keep it at 30% - should be an option on your card.

its about 75 F in my room and the card is at 30 C. at night when its a little cooler the card is only at 27 C. it just bothers me that everyone else card is at 30% idle and mine does 40%. makes me paranoid that some thing else might be odd about my card.

EDIT: I am an idiot. I had selected fan curve and that made it go to 40% so just un selecting it put it right back to 30%.

Don please introduce me to your friends that can give you free hardware.

You're going to need to set up your own review site with the amount of GPUs you've had lately. You could call it "Don's Karnage". :)

How do I get a free card? I wrecked my mustang so my 670 is gone until my mustang is back on the road.

I do notice that my computer boots significantly faster using the Intel igp.

Are you using EVGA PrecisionX and have enable software fan control enabled in the settings? That'll do it.

edit: noticed that's what happened. I have that set too but I modified it just a little bit so it doesn't ramp up so quickly.

Possible memory overheating?

coming up
no I doubt that as its just the point where it stops scaling because of either the memory controller or the memory itself being clocked past spec. plenty of gtx680/670 cards really dont get any faster past that speed either. thats just how gddr5 works when its oced to far and at some point it will actually reduce performance.

really it looks like yours is not doing anything at 6900 either as I got 9854 graphics score with 1271 core and you got 9877 with 1277 core. that means your graphics score is actually lower per core clockspeed than mine. I bet you could lower your memory and still get that same graphics score or better.

You're right toyota. Pulled the memory down to 6500 and only lost 6 points in the graphics score.
