This game is great!

I installed the fan patch and the resolution fix and it runs like a charm at 1680 x 1050.

I'm playing a Malkavian persuasion/dementation specialist with some melee skills. These guys are a blast during conversations!

I want to be a Seduction based character on my next play-through. Perhaps with an emphasis on magic

Anyone have any useful tips?

Things are going to get a little bit more hairy once you hit Chinatown. Make sure you invest into combat skills soon rather than dumping everything into seduction/lockpicking etc.

Guns seem weak now, but later on they will help a lot.

Save often. The game still hiccups even with the fan made patch. You might find yourself stuck in an object or a quest flag simply won't update. There's also the "door of death" glitch that still happens from time to time. (Door opens in a cutscene and then closes, with your char stuck and no way to open it)

There are lot of fan made skins for the game. They can make characters look a lot more detailed / sexy / threatining than they do now. Look for them.

Make sure you invest in some of the magic skills. Sometimes it's nice to just make a room full of hostiles commit suicide. Suicide doesn't work on hostile vampires, but if you use "mind control" on a human, they can help you in the fight.

If you've gotten a ghoul to work for you, be nice to them and don't send them away. Towards the end of the game they'll give you the best armor in the game, and you can' get it anywhere else.

Always bring a couple of packs of blood in your inventory. In tough fights, being able to heal or use spells like Dementia can make things a LOT easier (such as fighting the shotgun-packing priest boss). When you hit the sewers you run into a particularly nasty type of beastie and all you have to feed on are rats.

A real PITA when you are playing as a Ventrue. :(

I have this game, but haven't played it in ages. Because of this thread, I'm going to get back into it again. THANKS AT!

Will have to do it some day.

Now, the all-important question:
Is it BETTER, or WORSE than Deus Ex?

Dear god, By the time they finish modifying Bloodlines they will have to call the unofficial patch "Bloodlines 2" :)

Yeah that is a cult classic IMHO. The game was the last CRPG that was worth playing that had a great plot and atmosphere to it. To bad it was Troikia's last game. :(

Meh....those unofficial 'patches' have long since ceased to be patches and become mods.

At any rate, probably the best help I can give is to try to optimize your free skill points. Nines can give you point three or four of brawling, so you should get three before he trains you. The shooter guy in hollywood can give you up to four in firearms, IIRC. Fat Larry can give you the 5th level of the merchant skill, don't remember what exactly it's called. Books are all over the place, use em. The ones in santa monica can do levels 1&2 of their respective skills and can be bought twice, so get them.

If you're gonna play seductive, be female. Men can't seduce anything. The game is a lesbo fest.

Google the True VTMB patch. Its goal is only to fix bugs and resolve issues inline with Troika's original vision for the game. It doesn't add features, quests, etc. Its also a fraction of the size of the other major VTMB community patch.

Here is some info on the differences between the patches. I believe the VTMB patch done by Werner Spahl and supported by the Planet Vampire forums does have a option just to install fixes and not the extra content included in his patch. Also the "True VTMB" patch is based off the VTMB early patch work and it's fixes. Really though IMHO there is no reason to go with the "True VTMB" patch as you can easliy just only install bug fixes from the VTMB patch and then later re-install the extra content for a different game play experience if you like.

P.S. I took the res patcher from Fileplanet and submitted it to Filefront. It should be up in a day or two in the patch sections hopefully.

I know you can seduce the girl who shows you the secret passage at the mansion, but that's about it.

How the hell did I miss this game? So this is another atmospheric FPS w/ a little RPG? And no one wants to sell me one?

Yeah. The combat isn't that good (it's a multi-port XBOX/PC game) but it's pretty good, though I thought the ending was disappointing.
