I really don't get all the Steam bashing.

I'm not a huge gamer, but I bought HL2 Silver Edition before it was released & was playing on release day without an issue.

I have no complaints with it whatsoever, particularly now that they've added Blue Shift & the high res models from HL1.

SO is the game any good?

And how does it compare to BF2 (or can it?)

If it is just like CS with more folks, count me as uninterested.

I can't speak for those that have a "normal" network setup but it took me days to get it working right. My modem is hooked up to my wireless router which is linked to my access point (acting as a bridge) which is then hooked up to a 4 port switch which is then hooked up to 3 of my machines. One of those machines is my gaming machine and I could not get the damned thing to work. My file server is hooked up to my wireless router and it was able to login to steam just fine but the gaming machine couldn't. And it wasn't just me that had this problem so it was a "steam" issue.

I've never been a huge Dod fan but i'm hoping DoD:s will bring back all the people who left me for WoW.

I like steam by the way and really haven't had any trouble with it.

I've used it under a couple setups, directly through a wireless router & through a Smoothwall firewall. No problems with either.

My current setup is:

Cable modem => Smoothwall => Switched port on wireless router (to act as wireless bridge).

Both wired and wireless clients run from this, & Steam works great.

Steam is the single most  thing ever devised by a company (ask anyone who installed/tried to work hl2 when it first came out)...

I  Steam. It makes m life so much easier.

Not a single hitch here. Decided to buy it, was playing a couple hours later. Went home, could play my license on the computers there no hitch.

I have only one complaint about steam and that is sometimes it eats all my resources when its trying to pop a window up for me. Not that big a deal, I can always shut it off.

this is the version i have

do i get DoD for free?

Nope. If you bought any retail version of the game you don't get it unless you pay.

Teaches us suckers right for buying it at original price of $50 :rolleyes;

That's what kinda pisses me off... I think the silver package was actualy cheaper, and retail people don't get it free.

Its like CS but instead of Terrorists/Counter-terrorists, its more of a war game. Basically think BF but most likely without all fo the vehicles.

Strikingly similar to BF1942, any map where you had to capture points. Capture them all and you win.

The funny thing was that the original DoD was out way before BF1942.
