I would like to remind you guys who might will forget this. Day of Defeat: Source are coming out today at 3pm PST. I would like to remind you to have your steam up and running and preloading if you haven't done so...

This should be so sweet. 😉 Too bad I got class from 6-8pm EST... SO I'll be missing my first 2 hours 🙁

So Valve is a game company, right? This means that Steam is a game? Or is Day of Defeat a game and Steam is a new slang expression? How does Source relate to Steam or Day of Defeat?

Okay let me explain this to you.

-Valve is a company
-DOD: Source is the latest game by the Valve that uses the Source engine.
-Steam is a tool that we the gamers and Valve use to help people preload the games and install them via the internet given that you have an account and you paid for it.

If you want to know more then please visit SteamPowered - Valve

slow down there man!

Valve is a game company. They release their games through a software called Steam, which downloads games to your computer through the internet. One of the games they are releasing today is Day of Defeat: Source. Source is the name of the 3D game engine that Valve created for their new games.

Steam is the single most  thing ever devised by a company (ask anyone who installed/tried to work hl2 when it first came out)...

The keyword here is "when it first came out" and how about now? I think they have made some big strides in the past year with Steam. It's much more stable and dependable now than when it first came out.

 Valve doesn't exist... 😉

Steam is nothing but a pile of steaming cat turds.

I preloaded DOD:Source a few days back. I'm not too interested in the game itself (I don't even know what it is, really) - but hey, it comes at no extra charge with my copy of HL2, and it's supposed to have HDR. Why not. 😛

depends if you got the silver or gold edition. If you got bronze then no.

well i think it depends on what version of hl2 you bought. if i remember correctly, dod source comes with the gold & silver version of hl2 (the retail version is equivalent to the silver steam version), not the bronze or regular version, whatever its called.

No, SynthDude2001 must have been an idiot if he thinks he got it for free. he more likely purchased the Silver Edition like me here which does includes DOD: Source.

Also I have heard a few instance of my friends being able to pre-load them even if they didn't purchased it. It may be that they do allow you to preload but will not be able to play it until you pay for it. I am not too sure about that although.

I got me the silver version so I'm all ready to play it. 😉 after my Criminology Exam 1 today... 6-8PM EST

Um, where did I say I got it for "free"? I said "no extra charge" - meaning I've already paid for it. I also don't much appreciate being called an idiot when you clearly misunderstood what I said. 😉

Jon855's such an idiot... 😱

basically don't close steam unless you want to not have access to any of your games for a few hours while their servers get raped.

[venting STEAM]

Steam is a utility program "designed" by the FVCKTARDS at Valve. Steam is a great idea, but it's so poorly implemented that it would be abandoned if the end users had any other alternative.

It's a slow inefficient resource hog. I think Valve used some code they found on the intarweb from a junior high school coding project...
