Instead, go to the bar on vday. Happy hunting!

I've gone bar hopping on Valentine's Day when I was single. Let me assure you the pickings were slim. It was mostly guys getting drunk, the single women were all at home wearing sweatpants and eating Ben & Jerry's.

What about people who spends hundreds on a meal not on V-day?

Depends. There are occasions worth celebrating and sometimes you want to treat yourself to a nice meal. For Valentine's Day? Whatever floats your boat, but I think it is a silly "holiday."

My wife is 8 months pregnant and cranky as hell. Plus my son is sick. So yeah, v-day pretty much sucked.

good idea to avoid restaraunts on any holiday. too many people, most will take too long and chances are you will have to wait a long time unless you get there extra early or late

1) had flowers delivered to her work
2) after work.. went over to her place.. gave her a card with a personal message
3) cooked dinner for her
4) watched a movie
5) bedtime

Mine went well
1. woke up cooked bfast in bed for my fiance and gave her the required flowers
2 Went to work
3. GF had dinner for me ready when I got home (I normally cook so it was a nice surprise)
4. we watched star trek then an early night to bed. (I have a sex realted injury to my little (yet still big) man so no skin on skin last night 🙁

and before you ask Startrek was her idea, I convinced her to watch a couple episodes of Enterprise in December and she has been unstopable since, were on to voyager now (getting the crappy stuff out of the way first)

yesterday was the first time in years we went out on valentines day. And it was more of a "eeh... i really dont want to cook tonight" thing. So we wnt to Bob Evans where the kids eat for free on Tuesdays. 😀

This is why I'm taking my girl out tonight. For starters neither of us were getting home until like 9:15 last night, and second everywhere was going to be packed. No use putting up with all that crap 😛. We're going to Red Lobster tonight, followed by a relaxing evening on the couch, followed by her words of "I'm going to **** you senseless".

Can't wait to get off work today. 😀

Yet, the OP confirmed what we already knew. How was his experience and meal there?

I've only been there once and wasn't impressed myself, but in general, nothing wrong with many chain restaurants.

Take Olive Garden for instance. The amount of Olive Garden hate on AT is comical. I'm not saying it is the best Italian restaurant on the planet or that it is super authentic, but for the most part, I think it tastes fine.

But where I live, I can find an independent/local restaurant that is better than any chain for whatever cuisine. One of the best things about living in the city. So, going to a chain is always going to be a last resort.

I definitely prefer the local restaurants and try to frequent them as often as possible, but the better ones are located in Indy's Broad Ripple or Fountain Square sections and sometimes I just don't feel like driving all that way.

seriously though guys, am I the only one that thinks taking someone out to dinner isn't as romantic or good as putting real effort into a special home cooked meal? or are there that many totally inept cooks in this world

Depends. My gf loves the atmosphere of many of the places we like to dine at and I can't make sushi.
