BTW, I want to hear what dave's opinion on this is and Ben skywalker too. From the looks of the 1024 res HSR2 bench, that one seem the to be the one that should have the most benefit for speed and eye candy.

I wonder how it runs with the FSAA 2x on with the HSR.

DB3D:

In basic terms, the edge of your screen is the guardband. You want to get rid of everything outside, so you clip it. Now the guardband isn't specifically your screen edge, it is in theory anywhere you want it to be. But basically it is clipping outside of the viewport.

Wow, I think that these new drivers hold a tremendous amount of potential. If the visual glitches are fixed, and only half the performance is kept, a lowly 5500 should match the mighty GF2U in Quake 3! Keeping half the performance is a conservative estimate, I assume. Good work 3dfx! :D

lol thanks, but I really just earned it by neffing too much ;)

I wonder how accurate that 90+ FPS in 1600x1200xHQ will be though when they fix the visual glithces.
If it's counting half drawn frames or something that number could be very innaccurate.

So by the time rampage comes out and the HSR is a more mature state we should probably see twice the performance on a Rampage with a p4 then right?

What Marty said basically :) If 3dfx can tweak things up a bit and get rid of the visual glitches at high resolutions, this could be awesome.

How about 1024x768 with FSSA (2X, 4X) - I'd like to see those benchmarks :)

Ok snow, here ya go!

My System
P3-933eb, 128mb RAM, V5-5500 (166mhz)

Q3, 1024x768x32, High Quality

No FSAA
HSR=2: 89.0 fps
HSR=4: 96.2 fps

2x FSAA
HSR=2: 68.4 fps
HSR=4: 88.6 fps

4x FSAA
HSR=2: 38.0 fps
HSR=4: 71.6 fps

There were no graphical anomolies w/out FSAA and with 2xFSAA/HSR=2. However, the other benchmarks had significant issues.

So with 2XFSSA and HSR set at 2 at a resolution of 1024x768x32 you can still pull 68.4 fps. Nice!! :D

Sorry to preach, but I think you are referring to Sharkfood, not SharkKeeper.

Hey Wing!

try 1024x768x16 bit
enable 32-bit textures, max the geometry and texture slider

then enable 2x FSAA

I'm real interested in that

anyone figure out how to get the HSR to work with MDK2?

Also, are you using the registry hack or the command line to get the HSR to work?

Everyone knows I support 3DFX, but this HSR praise is getting out of hand.

IT DOES NOT WORK.

It is more like SUFACE REMOVAL.

I tried it actaully in level in Q3 and most of the map dissapears before you. Although it is buggy right now, I am sure they will get it working or they wouldn't have smiles on thier faces when they talk about it.

Right now Q3 is the only game that I have found that actuallys runs with the HSR settings.

SOF and MDK2 work the same with or without the HSR.

Robo, I'm launching Q3 from the .bat file that SharkFood (over at 3dfxgamers) suggested. I'll run the suggested bench in a minute.

IBMer, I did not get any graphical issues with noFSAA or 2xFSAA/HSR=2.

How do I set a max fps in Q3? And, how do I display the fps during the benchmark?

Don't run the test.

Actually play single player or mutliplayer to see. The Benchamarks run to fast for you to see it.

On a better note, I got to try MDK2 with WickedGL.

This thing runs fast as hell.

I set the textures to be always compressed.

I went around a bunch of places to see if there was any loss in quality because of this and NONE. Since MDK2 doesn't use lightmights and instead uses a lighting engine, there is no corruption of the light maps.

GUESS what my benchmark ended up being as well?

97.2fps at 1024x768x32 with the textures slider all the way to the right.

That is just as fast as my GTS WITH T&L.

Aparently the same increase in speed came from the Radeon at the beginning when people didn't know the textures were automatically forced to 16-bit in the drivers for the Radeon. Compressing all these textures really helps out with the bandwidth a lot. I used to get 63fps. Hehe. I wonder what people will say about this?
