That..is..awesome! Probably be pretty nose heavy though since the engine weighs 700+lbs.
 
IMHO definitely the wrong swap due to all the compromises it took.

The LSx motor would have made for a much funner/drivable car.

If I didn't change jobs and needing my car more than just 7 miles round trip to work, I was most of the way to pulling the trigger on getting a LS2 and possibly the LS7 for my 240SX. That engine goes in better than stock.

What happened to your 240SX? Did you trade it in when bought the M3?

I sold it the first weekend it was listed for $6700 asking $7000. The buyer was going to send me the other $300, but he was a good guy so I let it go.

I could have held out for more cash, but in the end I feel selling a used car at a discount absolves me of possible issues.

If I had a good spot for it, I wouldn't have sold it. It was a very rare specimen, in fact a couple of the guys at the local shop the buyer took it to for an inspection tried to buy it higher from under him.

To be fair, I don't think anyone builds a good V10. Even the M5 V10 was criticized for lacking low end grunt, something the new M5 should have no trouble at all with. V10 is kind of a retarded design imho. No reason for it to exist when you can just build a V8 that has all the HP/TQ you could ever want.

The Viper is a beast though, that ~7 minute Ring run with the ACR-X model is ludicrous.

This. I bought a used 2010 and traded it for a new 2012 4 months later. Torque was poor with the E60 and it just wasn't that fun to drive unless you flogged the crap out of it. The F10 is superior in every way, even if the "piped in" engine noise is a little on the cheesy side. :sneaky:

I don't see why it had to be a V10 with that displacement. There are better V8 packages that are more proven, and the torque figures are relatively low.

It's apples to oranges, but the ZR1 is what, 1/3rd the price and has a better motor setup imho.

For a more valid comparison, the F458's 4.5L V8 is a little superior in power, despite being slightly smaller.

V8 > V10 imho. The balance issues just aren't worth it, and you can get similar displacement with better fundamentals by going V8. If you want to really go big, you can go straight to V12 and skip the balance issues.

Btw, the thing you were criticizing the Dodge V10 for, being 90 degrees, is one way to compensate for the inherent flaws in going with a V10 design in the first place.

I don't have much of a substantive response in terms of performance, but I do think the Carrera GT and LFA have what might be the sexiest engine notes of any modern cars.

I agree, particularly on the Carrera, but that's an extremely subjective metric. I prefer the F458's scream 🙂 But these are vehicles considerably out of my price range to begin with. Nothing gets my heart pumping like a good classic carb'ed V8 loping perfectly though.
 
I find the Viper far more compelling just because it's something I could afford if I chose to. Would it be a smart buy? Absolutely not. However, it is attainable.

Yeah there are some pretty well-kept ones in the $30 range that wouldn't be very difficult to keep going for pretty affordable rates.

Can't really say the same about an LFA, or even a 458. Even a GT-R is probably going to be a maintenance nightmare once they get up to 100k+ miles and $20k-$30k pricing. I predict a lot of 20-somethings picking them up used a few years down the line and getting owned by ridiculous problems. I'm not dissing the GTR, it's freaking epic for the price in so many ways, but it's mechanically complex enough with basically no parts shared with cheap models that when someone blows a diff or has some funky part failure that it's gonna be huge dollars to keep on the road.

Hahaha, at least with the Vettes and Vipers it's pretty easy to take one from a gen or two back and update it completely if you want a bit at a time. New suspension, new wheels/tires, new brakes, crate motor, supercharger, exhaust, cams, etc, etc. basically anything is possible.

Well, the old one, if I wanted, that really wouldn't be a stupid buy. A new one is just far too much to spend on a car.

Though, I would have to park it on the street since nothing lower than my challenger can really get in to my parking area (as it is, I have a certain way I pull out to avoid dragging that).
 
wow, that is impressive. And I thought I had a tight engine bay. I wonder what it will be like to drive with the pedals shifted over though. Do you think it will be an issue?

What is the weight difference between a viper and an s2000?

How close are you to gettin er on the road? (timescale)
