That is one plus to having Mexico as our Southern neighbor. Europe has a similar illegal problem but they are Muslim. Id rather have 20 million illegal Christian aliens running around than 20 million Muslim illegals running around, who are mostly from fundy hotbeds such as Iraq/Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Which is also funny considering the Christian bashing...Take your pick - Christian illegals from Mexico who are [largely] peaceful or militant illegals from Islamic lands [Europe has a good number of terror cells present].

Not a christian here, but I'd assume that most religious writings say something like this based upon what the conservative talking points about immigration: "Loathe thy neighbor, let not the poor neareth thine self! Show not compassion, but contempt for those of lesser wealth!" Maybe I got the rhyme wrong.... I dunno 🙂

Wow. There are so many things wrong with your post I don't know where to start.

Money spent to support Prop 8 came from private citizens. The LDS church didn't spend tax-free dollars to do so. Members of the church did. Big difference.

I'm not sure what your last quote even has to do with the subject. Do you think the LDS church hired Henderson and McKinney to kill someone? Do you really think that voting against gay marriage is the same as pistol-whipping someone and killing them for their sexual orientation?

On topic- The rep should have chosen his words a little more carefully as he did sound a little racist. Overall I think it's a good step though. There are a lot of illegal aliens in Utah.

I think it should lead to cognitive dissidence for anyone saying they are Christian but putting nationalism above the well-being of others... I know it did for me when I would say-things like "if they try to cross, shoot'm" and then I came to realize that some jobs here are not as important as people not starving elsewhere.

Right. Sure. Yet the officer who pulled you over, should know just who he is dealing with... Are you a habitual DUI offender? Open Warrants? Sex Offender hanging out in a school zone or near a playground? The requirement for ID/license is a simple request to ensure you know how to drive, can recognize traffic signals, and so that society has a record in regard to whether you suck at it or not.

Insurance is mandated in most states in order to somewhat protect others.

um... yes. We aren't talking about starving in one place vs another: you are talking about having good retirement benefits here vs high infant mortality there.

Seriously, when making a decision about right and wrong ask yourself: what kills more children.

If someone can say that the depression in lower-class wages is not worth the reduced number of dead babies that come from people working here and sending substance back to their family then that person fails at following what Jesus was all about.

Top officials with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints filed reports today indicating that they donated more than $180,000 in in-kind contributions to Proposition 8, the November ballot initiative that banned same-sex marriage in California.
The contributions included tens of thousands of dollars for expenses such as airline tickets, hotel and restaurant bills and car-rental bills for top church officials such as L. Whitney Clayton, along with $96,849.31 worth of “compensated staff time” for church employees.

Depress wages among the poor long enough, and they will fill that gap with blood.

This nation's prosperity is fragile. It is unique and possibly just a fleeting dream here one century and gone the next. If the 20th century was our golden age, then you do NOT want to witness the deaths wrought by applying undue pressure to our downward spiral.

Uh.. love requires marriage? You realize you can have a ceremony regardless of who you are, right? So the love and the express commitment is there, what does that leave? There are lots of arguments for allowing gay marriage, but this isn't one of them.

Nice to see the left being intolerant while preaching about tolerance though. Do you not find it odd that you dislike one group for pushing their beliefs on others while supporting another that does the same? Who are YOU to say what a god is or isn't? Can they only pray if you have deemed their denomination worthy? Try to be less of a bigot.

For everyone else the Mexican laborer is reducing the cost of the things we buy, increasing demand for the things we produce, spurring on the economy, saving lives back in Mexico and giving us more scientist, engines and entrepreneurs 50 years from now as their progeny learn and grow within our system.

and without the population growth that the Mexican immigrant offers we will slowly deteriorate, just like Europe.

We need to be figuring out ways to document and train the work force that wants to come here; not shut out our greatest potential wealth building tools.
