this games weapons needs a rework, bio rifle is too powerful, splash damage weapons >>>>> ranged weapon in this game, ranged weapons don't have rate/critical dmg on head/ammo capacity and most of the maps suck, and theres no way to tweak the LOD for higher quality graphics with out crashing, if epic makes an expo to fix these problems, I'm sure they'll get more sales

UT2k3 is what Got me into the UT series. I prefer the 2Kx gamestyle, though GOTY isn't bad. UT3 can go to hell. I can't believe they fit so much suck onto 1 disc.

The game menu alone is inexcusably bad. 9 years ago in UT99, they pulled off a slick, easy to navigate menu with lots of content and options. And now it sucks? Is this the same company?

UT99 felt like a PC game, with options, settings and a feel that suggested it was made for the PC. If I wanted a console game I would've bought a console.

UT2004 is the worst of the series gameplay wise. The weapons are nerfed, and the movement is far too floaty. Also do not be fooled by the player counts for UT2004 because it counts bots as actual players.

I agree that UT99 has the best overall gameplay and movement, but last I checked there wasn't much online multiplayer public server activity for regular weapons games, such as regular weapons CTF. Assault is almost completely dead and Domination is dead. I suppose that there might be some regular weapons Deathmatch left. That leaves instagib CTF and perhaps various modded games.

UT 2004's CTF, DM, and Domination games are inferior to UT99's, but it's redeemed with the excellent Onslaught and Invasion Monster Mash RPG, which is where you'll find most of the online multiplayer activity today. You'll get used to the floaty dodgyness eventually.

It's a shame that UT3 was a stillborn because the basic gameplay and feel and movement were pretty good, though not perfect. If UT3 could have been released in a polished condition with more game modes -- CTF, vCTF, DM, Warfare, Onslaught, Invasion, Assault, and Bombing Run it could have been a hit.

Someone who's new to the series should really consider buying the Unreal Anthology, which would give them the original Unreal single player game, UT99, and UT 2004. GoGamer.com carriers it often for under $10 plus shipping.

UT3 is fantastic. Bought it on steam for $10.

It feels a lot like UT99 did. It has a much faster pace than UT2k4 did.

I played arena_of_death and it was the most fun I've had in an online shooter in ages.

I've been waiting a long time to buy UT3. I still play UT2k4 regularly. But they promised a mac and linux version and I'm not buying it until they have at least one of those. Sure I could run it in windows, but any company that promises a linux version isn't getting my cash until they have a linux version.

Plus for now UT2k4 is still a great game.

This thread at the ProUnreal community may be of interest to you if you're wondering what might be holding up a Linux version. (I suspect that, given the lackluster sales, Epic has little to no interest in producing Mac and Linux versions, aside from what may be some potential legal issues hinted at in this thread. The interesting stuff is near the end of that first post.)

Regardless of all the problems UT3 has, it's probably going to be the last game of it's type. The arena shooter is a dying breed. The market now has become saturated with Counter Strike "modern warfare" knockoffs because thats what the Xbox Live kiddies like to play.

are you saying ut2003 is better?

I play from time to time, I picked it up for 10 bucks and it's a fun mindless action shooter when I'm bored.
