Aside from it's other problems, UT3 is just too graphically demanding for an online FPS. In single player games drops to like 20fps are tolerable but not in an online game. TF2 and COD4 run much better on older machines. CS1 is STILL the most popular fps in the world (yes it's still more popular than CS:S) due in large part to the fact that you can run it on practically any machine.

Wouldn't much of that depend on your hardware? I play at 1280 x 1024 with an 8800 GT and a lowly Athlon 4400 (at 2.4 Ghz) and I haven't had any problems.

My System is similar to yours and it mostly runs fine at 1680x1050 but I get some annoying slow downs here and there. Our systems are way above average though. Even if you turn the graphics settings way down, you're not going to get 60fps on an older computer in UT3.

Yeah, I noticed somewhat of an increase in servers as well when I updated.

I played the demo a few times and was disappointed in the server browser interface. Was that improved with the full game + patch? I'm mostly interested in if they put the 'Open IP' option on there, so you can connect directly to a buddy's game?? I didn't see it in the demo unless I'm extremely blind and don't know it. Been wanting to pick this up, what major changes did the patch bring? If this has already been asked and answered, my apologies, for I didn't feel like reading 7 pages of posts.

The 2nd patch, Patch 1.2, seems to have fixed the server browser and improved it some. It's still not up to UT99 and UT 2004 standards, but it's not that bad now.

yeah, I feel similar about the game. Controls seemed fine, but when single player only involves multiplayer with bots, it gets old quickly. Guess I just got tired of it, I really enjoy good single player games, I think of online as pretty much a bonus.

But I'm selling my game now because I just don't play it anymore, been a month since I have played it last I think. PM me if anyone wants it.

Have any of you tried Galtanor's Invasion for UT3? It's an absolute blast! The latest version, 019, is compatible with the last 1.3 patch. The monsters in there are very well textured, the animations I believe are using the same ones from the official characters so it looks professional already and it's just in beta form as it is. With manual configuration it's possible to add bosses, numbers of them each waves, the overall difficulty, the types of monsters to be spawned, etc, it makes me remember the Monster Madness server I used to play in UT2004 (although MM is much more complex and has a lot more variety due simply to the time they've had to work on it since UT2004 has been released years ago, of course, but UT3's Invasion has a lot of potential).

Anyways, if any of you are disappointed by other game-play modes in UT3 but you still own the game and it's taking up the dust then I highly suggest you guys at least give a try to that mod, and there are two official servers for on-line play, although I prefer off-line play myself since I prefer to configure my monster waves myself for my own skills during game-play, and I also use UTRPG which adds an RPG feel to it with progressive leveling and even power ups dropped from the monsters when they die and so on, also powered-up weapons with different effects like knock back or increased or even reduced damage, etc. I really enjoy it, I find myself playing UT3's beta Invasion more than the much more developed Invasion for the UT2004 community, simply because it plays better, it has a more frantic feel to it maybe because UT3 is more similar to UT99 than UT2004, which in my book is a plus.

I've been playing that a lot with some friends over the last month or two. That mod has largely redeemed this game as far as I'm concerned. The combat is a lot of fun and the monsters are hilarious.

BattleRPG is definitely a good addon to use with it. Another nice one is Sentinel, which allows you place turrets and put various upgrades on them.

Redeemed??? CTF & the teleporter made this game, and i see no one playing it... I guess if you've played the series since 99 then you have a right to say, meh, but for me, coming back to UT3 and playing CTF has never been any better!

I'd love it if someone Modded Assault into the game. I'm currently making an Assault Map for UT2k4, would prefer to make it for UT3 though.

If anyone remembers correctly this happened with UT2003 and a year later UT2004 was delivered.

I think most remember, but also know that PC games are no longer the companies focus. Perhaps we will get to Beta test a future console version again.

I think Tom Sweney is waiting out the development of the direction the PC hardware world is going. That was the general idea i got from reading the article at tomshardware.
