I get ~85fps @ 1024x768x32 with max everything
A643200+ 9600XT Cat4.2

~75 @ 1280x1024x32 with max everything, no AA/aniso
2.4c/d875pbzlk 9600pro Cat4.2

yep but if they included all the hi-res textures the download size would be even larger, something for you to look forward to in the final version

There is one ANNOYING bug. If my internet connection is lost once and I re-gain internet access again, UT will always think that it is down. The only fix for this is to reboot. It's quite annoying!

This game blows. Desert Combat > UT2004.

Surely you jest? Maybe you only played the game for 5 minutes? (although I'm sure you'll say you played it for at least an hour and fairly judged it and whatnot) This game kicks ass and it offers plenty that DC doesn't. If it blows, I don't even want to think about what DC does.

BF and Mods = Old news

As usual, UT comes out as the clear leader in FPS, IMO.

Kicking EVERY other FPS's ass! Halo, BF, CS, HL, Quake, etc....all crap compared to 2K4. 😀

No, I played for the past couple of days. It's too much of a goddamn hyper fragfest with little strategy involved. It's very much an arcade FPS with little skill required, outside of point, shoot and hope it sticks.

I stand by my judgement.

DC > UT2004

Yeah I also like the slower moving FPS's where people run at more realistic speeds, and requiring some thought and strategy. What good are these graphics if you don't have time to look at them?

I have a ATI 9200 mobile 32mb video card... please let me know.
It runs on my laptop with a 9200 64 mb so I'm sure you will be fine. Why not just try it and find out, it's a free download.

ARS-Technica has a pretty good server, I was just on it. Fun time!

Btw, does anyone know where online I can find literature about the different gameplays? I have no idea how to play the new modes 😱

thx,

-FP

Look on the start menu, then find the UT2K4 folder. There is a game manual.pdf file

If this game was just a plain non-skilled arcade hyper fragfest, then there would be different top-scorers at the ends of every match. But from what I've seen, the same people get the top scores almost every time. The game requires some skill.. there's just a lot of unskilled noobs playing the demo right now.

If any of you know from UT2k3 insti-gib bombing run .. or CTF, you'd know that skill is definitely a requirement to get a high score.

IMO, slower-moving fps's don't require any more skill. They just don't require as fast reflexes. I happen to like the lightning-quick reflexes required to play UT2k3 and UT2k4.

Well everyone is certainly entitled to his/her opinion. However, I think its entirely wrong to say there is little skill involved. Wait a few months after release and play, and I guarantee you that you'll be able to tell who's been playing for awhile and who just started. It might seem chaotic, that doesn't mean there isn't skill involved. Also, DC isn't exactly brainbustingly hard to pick up either. I mean, let's face it, you drive around and blow stuff up. It's slower paced and might seem "strategic", but there really isn't that much to it.

Edit:

Exactly. Everyone seems to have the idea that slower games somehow require more strategy or skill. The facts (in this case end game scores) just don't support that. Take Quake I for example. That's a fragfest if there ever was one. But it would be ridiculous to say it doesn't require skill.

Edit 2: My sig quote is relevent here

Yep, it takes lots of skill, especially in CTF, where it's not just spawn kills galore like DM. Those who say UT doesn't require any skills obviously never played in a clan environment....otherwise, they would realize that CTF requires boatloads of skillz 😛

Wait..wait..you think DC-BF isn't an arcade FPS? .....I hope you realize it isn't realistic other than the vehicles and weapons.

DC doesn't strike me as the kind of game sitting in a movie theater lobby, ut2k4 does. That's all. Realistic? Well it certainly more realistic to have an apache parked in my back lawn than a raptor but my focus was mainly on the speed of it all. Of course neither are realistic, they're video games. 😉

It wouldn't be in a movie theater lobby because moviegoers don't have 20 minutes to spare so they can drive their tank across el-alamein. They want action now. Nonetheless, point taken. I guess they're just two different kind of games.
