Using a baseball bat for self defense

First of if he's in my house and doesn't run, it's my kids I am defending and I much prefer a blade. 12 inch Kabar held pointback for slashing. If I wasn't in a good neighborhood a nice wakisashi would be better kept in the closet, but the wife prefers the swords locked up in storage.

If he's got a gun then I have even more reason to protect the kids.

I would go for a kick in the nuts and a punch on the nose...

With a baseball bat, I would simply use his head as a ball.

Yeah. I don't get what the point of this thread is. There's only one correct way to swing a bat, and if it's the most power effective why not just use that?
Well, there is a correct way to swing it - but I don't think going for the head is the best idea. The perp could duck, and while you are admiring the *swoosh* sound of a swing and a miss, he could get away - or even worse, counter-attack.

I think I would just swing for the general mass area.

Also, it doesn't appear that anyone picked up on my "Signs" reference earlier in the thread. Baby Jesus is quietly whimpering in the crib.

A battering ram? I imagine that the speed of your thrust isn't that great so that he can step to the side or even worse grab the bat himself. I vote for top down swings like a katana.
