So if someone breaks into your house, and you don't have a gun, what's the most effective way to stop an intruder?

I'm thinking if you turn on a light and the guy sees you with a bat, and tries to challenge you instead of running- what should you do? I wonder if charging at him holding the bat like a battering ram would be better than swinging it sideways or over your head. If it's dark, and he can't see you, I guess just smacking him over the head would work best.
 
hti him in the knee caps to shatter tham causing life long damage. also if he's down you can hit him but check your local law books on that one.
 
Forget technique and go psycho as quickly as possible. Striking the 2nd best place instantly is better than aiming for the best body part after pondering it for a few seconds. Swing as hard as you can as fast as you can for as long as you can. You're bound to hit something. Remember that a baseball bat is not a precision instrument. If you're really whaling on somebody there are plenty of places to hit that are effective.
 
Most likely in that situation, just hit him hard, wherever....it's gonna hurt regardless.

For a good shot, that's gonna disable a person, an overhead shot to the collar bone area , or from behind, directly on the trapezius muscle, either of which are extremly painfull, and will disable that side of the body, and if it's from behind it'll disable that side all the way down to his feet.

If you get him bent over or turned a little, a good horizontal shot to the kindey, or a thrust to that area, will cause great pain, and possibly severe injury. Knees are great targets but that swing would leave you open for a just about anything he'd like to do to you.

I've been hit in the nuts before, and it hurts really bad, but there's those few seconds before the pain sets in that you are completly infuriated, and have the ability to strike back before hitting the floor....just something to think about.

Best of all...a good shot in the throat will make him wish he'd picked a different house.

Yeah. I don't get what the point of this thread is. There's only one correct way to swing a bat, and if it's the most power effective why not just use that?
 
Most effective way is to run for your life.

After your failed attempt to stop the intruder and he kills you, he can have the run of your house and get everything. If instead you run for your life, you'll get to keep most things. Then let insurance pay for the things you lost.
