USC is sending back Reggie Bush's Heisman Trophy

The Trojan family honors and respects the USC sporting careers of those persons whose actions did not compromise their athletic program or the opportunities of future USC student-athletes. Accordingly, I have instructed the senior vice president for administration to remove athletic jerseys and murals displayed in recognition of O.J. Mayo and Reggie Bush by mid-August -- before the incoming class of students moves on campus -- from Heritage Hall, the Galen Center and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The university also will return Mr. Bush's 2005 Heisman Trophy to the Heisman Trophy Trust in August.

Talk about witch burning. So the guy took some perks... Would you turn down free gifts?
I hate USC football, but it is ridiculous to erase Reggie from USC.
He is still one of the best running backs of all time.
It's not like taking gifts made him a better athlete.

I skimmed the article, so I may have missed it. Does this mean that the Heisman Trust is going to vacate him as the winner of that trophy? If so, does that mean the runner up (Vince Young, I believe) will get it?

They should send this one back too.

What a joke, so the guy took some gifts, BFD, it didn't make him a better athlete. Of course juiced up Brian Cushing still won DROY even after getting busted for taking PEDs.

He probably should have won it back then anyway. If only voting were held after the entire regular AND postseason. I doubt he would want it now though just like I doubt they would even offer it.

A car, spending money, and a $750K house for his parents.

He was dirty and punishment is the only way to dissuade others from doing the same.

🙄

But it's cool for the NCAA to continue exploiting elite athletes by not paying them a damn dime. Fuck the NCAA, what a scam.

You mean aside from a full ride to school, and for places like USC, what amounts to an NFL prep training program.

Would it be fair for guys like reggie bush to make hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions of dollars while in college, while the other 99.99% of student atheletes get nothing?

Of course it should be VY's, especially if you factor in the BCS game. Bush ran behind one of the best O-lines I've ever seen, illegally pushed his QB into the end zone to stay undefeated, showboated however/wherever he could, and made a crucial fumble in the same game VY won almost by himself.

Whether they take it away from him or not he'll still go down as winning it unfortunately, but you're probably right in that it wouldn't be offered to him and as much as he made it known he wanted one I doubt he would even accept it.

You know you open a whole new can of worms when you pay student athletes. How much do you pay female Lacrosse players?

How about whatever contract you negotiate? Just like every other league on the planet.

Yeah, most of those football players are getting a real quality education. Honestly, I wouldn't have a problem with it if there were other legitimate options for NFL hopefulls.

For example, hockey players have the CHL which has an excellent record of sending top players to the NHL. A hockey player that chooses the NCAA instead is in much more of a fair position.

But the schools and the NCAA are making a fortune off these kids and they don't get a dime. That has always bothered me.

Regardless of "dirty", it had nothing to do with his skills. It's not like getting a $750k house for his parents won him the heisman.

Is anyone else getting a little jaded with college football? It has become such a money machine and to be honest I am enjoying the fact that my alma mater, a mid-major, is starting to do well. I grew up a huge fan of an SEC school but have so much trouble caring as much about "big time" college football anymore.
