What are people hoping this would achieve? A change in relations with Turkey? Something else? I'm truly wondering, because Turkey won't ever play nice with the idea.

It's one more way to attack KingObummer™.

Because freedom.

Or, because it's a cheezy action on the part of the current president of the United States. As it was cheezy of his predecessors. As it was cheezy of the Candian govt. before 2002. As it's cheezy of every govt. in the world that still acts the same way.

Semantics.

It happened, everyone knows it. Just like everyone knows cannabis isn't dangerous. Just like everyone knows the NSA is spying on literally everyone.

There are any number of things that elites at the top end of the governments of the world pretend are or aren't happening. This one is near the bottom of my list of things I am losing sleep over.

Agree. It is one big non-issue.

I'm well aware of the Armenian genocide. I'm also well aware of any number of genocides that have occurred in the last 100+ years. Of all the things I could criticize Obama over, this is at the bottom of my list, because whether he "recognizes it" or not doesn't really affect one human being...unless you can explain to me what beneficial thing occurs upon Obama recognizing that it happened in some official way.

Well, yeh, but they're desperate for Hate-Um Obama! opportunities, even piss poor ones.

It's really childish. "Mommy! Mommy! He won't say the G word!"

What did he say most recently, anyway?

“Beginning in 1915,” Obama’s statement said, “the Armenian people of the Ottoman Empire were deported, massacred and marched to their deaths. Their culture and heritage in their ancient homeland were erased. Amid horrific violence that saw suffering on all sides, one and a half million Armenians perished.”

He can call it a duck, or call it a web footed waterfowl that quacks. Only idiots would think he was talking about two different things.

"Make him say the G word Mommy! Make him!"

Yeah, it's disgraceful that we haven't rubber-stamped a century old genocide to alienate an already shaky ally helping us to limit a current genocide.

All hail the P&N school of diplomacy, where the moral high ground and fairy dust run the world. 😛
