US trained "rebels" decide to change sides. Shocking.

Well color me shocked. Not. Why haven't we learned in the last decade that these people in the middle east have no conscious and have no dignity at all. The only loyalty they have is to their own self serving interest.

We should pull everything and everyone out ( including our aid money ) and let them stew in their own feces.

You know, I was thinking about the middle east and I was thinking along the lines of the whole "enemy of my enemy" meme has gotta be one of the stupidest ideas. In the middle east, this maxim is never true. The enemy of my enemy is probably also my enemy. My friends are probably my enemies too. That's a better maxim for the middle east.

How many decades of backstabbing do you need to learn not to arm and train Islamic "rebels" all over the world?

When the official policy is destablization, it makes a lot more sense. People like to hold onto this naive notion that they are electing people who represent their interests despite an overwhelming preponderance of evidence that clearly suggests otherwise. It is this naive notion, and only this naive notion, that allows this to continue. And yet Ron Paul is the frickin kook.

You want something done, do it yourself.

Agreed. You and your chicken ass buddies should get your guns and go settle things in the Middle East. The rest of us no longer give a fuck. Let the Middle East stew in their fucking hell hole, it is not the least bit in our interest to intervene. I am sick to the puke point of chicken hawks STILL crying for American kids to go over there to get killed and maimed. Fuck them, fuck them very much.

Oh I am totally shocked, SHOCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are turning into the #1 supplier of arms and training to our enemy.

We are turning into the #1 supplier of arms and training to our enemy.

We have always armed both sides, especially under republican administrations. Reagan illegally did that, and republicans still love him.

And how about the $6-9 billion that was "lost" in Iraq under Cheney and his Halliburton/Black Water boys? You don't think any of those missing funds went for weapons did it? That's a lot of money to just "disappear".

what we need is to get off fossil fuels and let these places devolve into whatever their manifest destiny desires.

I don't know why we are so upset about Russia sending troops to Syria. I guess they didn't learn the tough lessons of intervening in Afghanistan. Sitting back and watching them get attacked by their allies will be quite entertaining.

And about backing the Shia? We liberated them in Iraq and they immediately started attacking us. And they won't even defend their country, where they are the majority. Screw em. Now the Kurds, they've been a good ally. We should be backing them and helping them to form their own country. Screw Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey.

current cycle "rebels" make the new cycle terrorists. It's what keeps the military complex and by extension the contractors and war profiteers happy. How else can Republicans justify ever greater military budgets without bad guys to fight?

As Marco Rubio said during the CNN Republican Debate, we just need to arm the moderate rebels.

You know, the ones that are sane enough not to murder everyone, won't cross enemy lines, and stay loyal to us. Seriously, we've just been training the wrong rebels. We just need to find the right moderate rebels. They do exist. Just because we've screwed up with Mujahideen and Shah and a dozen other times doesn't mean we can't get it right this time around. If only we can find the mythical moderate rebels.

Sigh, words cannot express my frustration at the unspeakable stupidity that perpetuates the Middle East policy.

I hope sheeple would finally wake up but it won't happen. Rand Paul is the only one who openly talks about intervention blowbacks and that maybe we just shouldn't be so quick to arm the "right rebels", and his support from American public is practically non-existant.

NOT TRUE!

Look at what is happening to Europe now because they tried to ignore the problem. The war in Syria needs to be resolved or Europe will be flooded with more Middle East immigrants invading their borders.

You think Europe will be safe with all those Muslim hordes invading their countries now?

Action must be done!

The enemy of my enemy is probably also my enemy. My friends are probably my enemies too. That's a better maxim for the middle east.
You only need to understand one thing: which Muslims are Sunnis and which Muslims are Shiites.

Assad -> Alawites, which are Shiites
ISIS -> Sunnis
Iran -> Shiites
Turkey -> Sunnis
Saudi Arabia -> Sunnis

Now check who is fighting who. It is clearly Sunnis (who started the civil war in Syria) versus Shiites.

Iraq is a bit more complicated. The population are mostly Shiites. Saddam was Sunni, and his Sunni government, Sunni Bhaat party, and Sunni army used to oppress the Shiite majority. Now the Shiite majority oppresses the Sunni minority. So the Sunnis fight back via guerilla and by joining ISIL.

wait.

$500 million program.

goal was 5400 mercenaries.

500,000,000/5400 = $92592.60

couldn't we have just bought legitimate mercenaries at that price?

Which is WHY we should be cautious about the whole refugee thing. Even if the refugees are not ISIS agents, they're not necessarily going to be our grateful friends upon arrival.

...and time after time, we see exactly that.

Bleeding hearts are nice, but experience and wisdom are better.

I found this interactive map helped explain a lot. Hope it's accurate.
