US Imperialism

After much thought about the state of the world and my ever rising gas totals I fully believe the US should become imperialistic nation (although some would argue it already is) and seize the resources of other nations. It worked well for the Roman and Japanese empires for some time. Granted that many atrocities did occur but in our newly technological age of warfare we only need to ask and threaten in order to take the globe. After all Iraq was taken in less than a week.

Flamesuit on!

Well then you are on the winning side, sir. Some of our nation's finest and most influential political agents are in favor of a New American Imperialism.

Uhh, ever since WW2 (and actually you can argue it started way before that with Spanish-American War) America has been Imperialistic!

edit: It's interesting to think about that situation now actually: "Remember the Maine"? A warship suffers an explosion, before any investigation can find out what happened, the American press were pushing the country towards war with Spain. A hasty response... misleading intelligence... sounds familiar?

America might not be imerialistic, but BUSH is...invading coutries for no reasons :| :| Besides if America tries to capture "stronger" coutries, it will never succeed. This is a nuclear age! ...Besides its only the weaker nations that america is picking on rongly. THE WAR ON "TERROR" IS THE FIRST STEPS TOWARDS IMPERIALISM. "terror" is only a name, in real, USA is trying to conquer the world. Beleive me itll never succeed....

Don't forget the Gulf of Tonkin incident, another predecessor to Secty Powell's disingenuous testimony to the UN about Saddam Hussein's vast arsenal of WMDs.

oil is the most important resources in teh world. everyone drives in america, so if one can accumulate all the oil in the world by war, even better! free oil = infinite $$$ for bush and his administration. we're all now paying higher prices then ever since his control of afghanistan/iraq oil. unbelievable! again, more $= more power to whomever possess most of it. most of the oil in texas has been depleted and now, their is drilling in alaska as well!

Aren't you that kid who thinks that it's OK and humane to execute atheists?

You must be brainwashed if you think the US is trying to conquer the entire world or that it's even capable of doing that.

You sir, are an idiot.

Thank you Captain Obvious. 😉

Welcome to the thread Master of Understatement.

Personally I think the US should return to our Isolationist (political, not economic) roots and make strong moves towards renewable resources so we can stop giving money to people that hate us.

For no reason? Where have you been? May I suggest that you try to understand something before talking about it?

imperialism

n 1: a policy of extending your rule over foreign countries 2: a political orientation that advocates imperial interests 3: any instance of aggressive extension of authority

Bush hasnt extended our rule of law over Iraq. not according to that definition anyway. just because a country invades another doesnt make the invading country an imperialistic nation. if we sought to have Iraq become a permanent part of the US, then that would make us an imperial nation.

Okay, what if we maintain troops there forever and control nearly every aspect of civil life?

Conquering nations and rebuilding them politically in the US' own image using "puppets" to run the government is what I would consider Imperialistic.

I also think that the US needs to go back to being isolated politically and only help out with hands and eyes when required (disasters and such) but never give money.

Currently the US is the drug pusher of many nations, and that drug is foreign aid.

We need to cut them all loose and let them fend for themselves. Otherwise they will learn too slowly or not learn at all.
