More than 8.57 million guns were produced in 2012, up 31 percent from 6.54 million in 2011, according to data released this week by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives...

“Barack Obama is the stimulus package for the firearms industry,” said Dave Workman, senior editor of Gun Mag, .... “The greatest irony of the Obama administration is that the one industry that he may not have really liked to see healthy has become the healthiest industry in the United States.”
America’s Gun Economy
$6 billion Estimated revenue generated by the gun and ammunition industry in the U.S., according to an analysis by business research firm Hoovers

310 million Estimated number of firearms in the U.S., according to the federal government, which includes 114 million handguns, 110 million rifles, and 86 million shotguns

209,750 Number of jobs related to the firearm industry in 2012, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, which estimates that $9.8 billion in annual wages are earned annually

30% Percentage increase in employment in the industry between 2008 and 2011, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation...
As a civilian, I've never owned a weapon, still its nice to see some part of the US economy doing well. Weapons manufacturing was a 'shovel ready' industry?

Who da tunk it?

Meh, I think it has more to do with advancement of society than anything political.

Through the 80's 90's the modern progressives really pushed their "big scary gun" agenda.

Through the 2000's most intelligent people realized that a hunk of metal that throws another hunk of metal very fast is not in itself a dangerous item. Also realized that the anti gun legislation actually creates more violent crime.

Add in our issues with violent crime from thugs, and skyrocketing CCW rates... Plus shooting is a hobby for many people.

shooting is fun. Great time at the shooting range using both my weapons and my friends.

The funny thing is our dear leader is so incompetent the only thing he actually succeeded at 'fixing' is the one industry he so passionately hates and wants to destroy. I guess there is at least a silver lining to incompetence sometimes :D

Hyperbole alert!

He was pushing for a 100% background check something the NRA was even for before he was president. Thats hardly wanting to destroy the industry.

The NRA and something like 80% of the nation with 62.27% of the population (as represented by the Senators who represent them) voted for those background checks.

And you were doing so well in the other thread where you were calling spidey out for his craziness. Guess nothing good lasts forever.

That's about as intellectually honest as saying pictures of the Gulf Coast after the Deepwater Horizon explosion is political exploitation to further regulate the oil industry. . .

Or showing that recognizing that 13 people died in the I-35W bridge collapse is just exploiting them to raise taxes to pay for infrastructure.

Or using the deaths of 2,606 residents of NYC just to launch a $1.9 trillion war against Iraq that would cost us another 4,500 dead soldiers and kill hundreds of thousands of Iraqis.

Hang on, that last exploitation actually DID happen. . .

No I'm saying you just invoked a little spidey yourself with your post. The President just did what the nation was asking of him after a crisis.

The nation asked him when? What did the nation ask him to do? Don't forget that he even attempted to bypass Congress, who truly are the voice of the nation, after they defeated him.

He is a fear monger who can't accept that his word is not law. He tries to force his will on every one of use and attempts to sway people by using the images of dead children. He alone gives people like Spidey all the ammunition they need to act a little crazy. He wishes he could be a tyrant.

...

Riiiiight, and every one of those Senators were elected with 100% of the vote too.

This is a pretty deranged, spidey-like rant.

Go back and check your facts.

You're right. Actual support for those checks was much higher than just the percentage of people living in those states.

It was about as close to a unanimous endorsement for any policy as you will ever see.

Please, detail for us exactly how any of the proposed legislation could have prevented the shooting at Sandy Hook. O wait, you mean it wouldn't have? Hmm, that sounds a lot like exploitation to me.

Except for the fact that none of what you just said is true. The President did what was within his power to do. As I pointed out, 80-90% of the nation polled, with over 50% of NRA members polled, and a 62.27% of the population of the nation as represented by their Senators, wanted the increased background checks at a minimum. None of the executive orders the President issued had any real teeth or bypassed Congress in ANY way. Claiming such doesn't make it true it just makes you delusional or a liar.

LMAO, riiight, that's why the House got millions of letters, calls, and e-mails telling them to reject the legislation. Try again.

You are really trying to claim that 240 million people were polled?

Really? Really??

And did your Obama love prevent you from seeing where I said "attempted"?

So please tell me where one thing I said was a lie. I'll wait for your superior fact checking skills to post some links.

You know that statistics doesn't require too much more than about a thousand people to be polled in order to accurately describe what those 240 million people think as a whole, right?

Would expanded background checks prevented Sandy Hook? No. Are they a good idea? Yeah. Is that a piece of common sense gun control that the country has been lacking and doesn't interfere with a citizen's legitimate right to bear arms? Yes.

Now, please explain how the invasion of Iraq could have prevented the destruction of the Twin Towers.

You seriously can't be this stupid. You just ... can't. Is it a reading comprehension issue or no concept of how polling works? I give up. I can't argue with someone who prefers to be ignorant.
