That's f'ed up. There is no safe level of mercury. It's so insanely dangerous. You get trace amounts here, trace amounts there. It builds up over time. And it goes right to the brain too. Takes a very long time to go away. It's funny how people don't trust the government for anything but when it comes to health "Oh ok no problem it must be totally safe the government says so!". At the very least do some research and then decide if the risk is worth it to you.

As a member of the medical community I am going to go on a limb here and say the risk of ill effects from mercury exposure from the vaccine is significantly outweighed by the benefit of being vaccinated.

As a member of the community with people with more intelligence and common sense, I'm going to go on a hunch and assume you're the janitor who mops the floors in the hospital hallway, or some other line of work in the hospital in which you could be employed without ever having gone through any rigorous education.

For generations, children in schools *played* with mercury. They didn't die. Of course, it wasn't methylmercury - a compound that is far more dangerous and accumulates more readily. News flash! Nitrogen is bad for you because cyanide is half nitrogen. Oh no! 78% of the atmosphere is nitrogen! Not that it's elemental mercury in the shots either, but the compound that contains the mercury is no where near as harmful as methylmercury.

Furthermore, to simply demonstrate that you're wrong, let's assume 100% of the population of people not allergic to the flu shot was vaccinated. The flu would not spread. No one would die from the flu. How many people would die from the trace amount of mercury in the shot? None?

Ask any person over 40 years old. They had a handful of mercury that they played with at some point when they were in elementary or high school. While not "safe", the problems seem to be blown a little out of proportion.

Thanks for reminding me, I need to get the flu shot before I deploy to my new duty station.

50 micrograms of ethyl mercury? as in 0.00005gram, as in 0.0000017636 ounces. Oh NOES the Humanity!

Stupid people are stupid and they will have a higher chance of being dead sooner. Now if only all stupid people would be against modern medicine, we could remove all the warning labels off of things, this problem of idiots would solve itself.

My mom was a nurse and allowed me to play with it when she broke a thermometer, that was before the scare about it. Never bothered me that I can tell.

Your argument is just a stupid. Things like ricin and other toxins are extremely deadly at low concentrations (I've seen LD50 at 3ug for a person; 75ng per 18g of mice....)

Your reading comprehension is stupid. Notice I said ETHYL MERCURY. Where did I mention 50mcg of ricin is safe? Show me what vaccines they're putting 50mcg of ricin in.

Do you even have anything approaching a coherent train of thought? OMG 50mcg of ricin will kill you, that means 50mcg of ethyl mercury will kill you or 50mcg of H20 or Asorbic acid or Vitamin K will kill you too!!!!1!!!!

When people say a 30lb cat is big do you tell them that's stupid because a 30lb blue whale would be tiny for a blue whale? Do you tell people Usain Bolt is slow because 30mph is slow for the space shuttle?

Wait so you are trying to equate something as toxic as ricin to that of ethyl mercury.
And you?re the one complaining about stupid arguments?

Haha. Way to make yourself look like a dumbass. I am actually a medical student. And as many pointed already pointed out in this thread, I am right. WOOOOOOOOOOO! And we pretty much have the same viewpoint.

By the way, just an interesting little side note, since you decided to pick on janitors. Almost every hospital in the US requires that all hospital employees need to be ACLS certified, which means the janitors, cooks, scumbag lawyers, all have the ability and training to run a code on you. Did I mention that they could push drugs in you during that code too? EMT's don't even get to play with any drug more powerful than oxygen and maybe get to help out with Nitro, Albuterol, or epi pens. So don't dismiss the lowly Janitor. Remember, he was the funniest part of scrubs.

I was just pointing out that you're talking about the amount of mercury in terms of mass without giving any reference point. I think you're statement of amount is just meaningless - hence my ricin statement. Yes, no one is injecting ricin, but it just was there to show that there is plenty of shit that it is deadly at very low amounts. I agree that thiomersal (breaking down to ethylmercury) is pretty harmless in the amount given, but you could have explained it a little more for those that don't know the difference between ethyl and methyl mercury and other toxic compounds that could be easily found in their own environment and readily cause more problems than the small amount of thiomersal in a vaccine (if it is a multi-dose vial).
