Looks like Trump is going to have to be a little more discerning and cryptic about his choice of words. That's not to say that he needs to stop lying or being his 'ol boisterous self.
Methinks when he admitted to his supporters that he "had to" change his tune on the birther issue he did it with a very big double wink and a very animated sly grin.
So it looks like he got told to play the game closer to the vest, to make much more use of grand vague gestures, symbolism, conjecture and code words.....just like every other Repub running for office is doing at the moment.
And that right there is where Trump is having a real problem: All of that has the odoriferous stench of traditional GOP establishment politicking of which Trump has clearly stated time and again that he was the incarnate antithesis of, a position that immensely helped him win the Repub Primary.
For him to back out of that stance and run the risk of losing the support of the far right base whose shoulders he rode on to victory seems suicidal to me, so I'm guessing he's going to have to either play that delicate two-face fork-tongued game that all of the other Repub legislators are playing or simply (for him) keep right on being himself.
Neither of which seems to lead down a road to victory.

Clinton fired the first shots. Unless you want to distinguish any particulars between "Muslim Obama" and "Kenya Obama". It's the same dog whistle. Trump played ball with it years ago, lost, and now disowns it. Yes, Trump's a con-man. He talks up a lot of things that people want to hear, as he did then, as he does now. He saw division in the GOP and saw an opening.
"America first" is an ideal Americans want to restore. Border, trade, and job policies motivates a lot of people who have no voice in Washington. Trump is to be a hand grenade to teach the two party establishment that the people have teeth too, and we can fight back with a man that will damage you. That Trump is the reckoning for betraying us.
Every time the GOP attacked Trump, it was only further proof that he's not one of them. And that is the only resume needed for the task of rebelling.

You've got your facts wrong. Trump did not play ball years ago. He played ball for 5 years even after Obama released his birth certificate in 2011.
The one meme coming out of this election facts don't seem to matter.

Yep. It's not like there's some brand new evidence that just emerged to cause Trump to realize he has been lying. Oh no! He has known that he has been lying for years, and is only changing his tune now because it's political expedient for him. But somehow, that's still Hillary's fault.

Trump (in my opinion) pulled the biggest and most disgusting troll move - if this doesn't tell what person he is then I don't know. (In fact, the troll-move, to me, points almost at pathological insanity)
Let's recap:
* A few days ago there was talk in the media that Trump may be revising his stance on the birther story. Media mentioned that "the Trump campaign" is officially renouncing the story, however Trump himself was quiet and didn't say anything in public to this.
* So, some of the media started to expect that Trump himself, possibly would say something about this.
* Trump announced that he has an "important statement" at this event where he opened a hotel in NYC, and the media jumped on this in the assumption that this statement would be Trump's response to the rumors of the previous day.
* Trump pulled a MAJOR troll and presented the present media with some propaganda show where military endorsed him for 99% of the duration of the event, FREE AIR TIME and propaganda, for free. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.
* Only in the last minute(s) of the event, Trump loses exactly 58 words where he addresses the birtherism issue, WHILE, rather than apologizing or even just admitting that he was THE main figure in pushing birtherism, BLAMES IT ON HILLARY and says that he is the one "who ended it". Then leaves the propaganda event quickly, ignoring stunned reporters and their questions.
* Now, in "social media" etc...there is NOT ONE BIT talk of how Trump changed his opinion and/or admitted that he was wrong in the last some years. re: birtherism. Instead, the new talk in social media is now whether Hillary did or did not "start" birtherism. (With the Trump idiots of course now touting that yes, it was indeed Hillary who started and then continued to spread it..without there being ANY evidence whatsoever.)

It is pretty funny how quickly his supporters can shift from 'Obama is a Kenyan born Muslim and Trump is right' to 'Okay Obama isn't a Kenyan Muslim but it was Clinton's fault we thought that anyway'. Not one second of reflection about Trump's actions.
I would love to know when he stopped being a birther, as we have years of birther tweets from him up until very recently.

I swear, Trump's running mate Pence is as much as a lier as Trump is.
On the Sunday morning news shows Pence fell all over himself defending the Trump's lies, and Trump's birther obsession, and Trump's comments suggesting taking away the guns from Hillary's security staff, all that and you name it. Whatever came out of Trump's mouth, Pence now defends it.
It is true, and this is proof, that when two people hang around together, one good person and one not so good person, the not so good person always pulls down the good one to their gutter level.
Seldom will the good person lift up the bad one, and human nature proves that.
The good falls victim to the bad.
Palling around with Trump has taught Pence the skills of the dark side quite well.
Taught Pence to be just a much as a lier as Donald Trump himself has always been.
I hope Pence selling his very soul was worth it.
Two snakes in the grass, hoping to run the country...god forbid.

Seriously Drudge. Why not throw Breitbart or some other alt-right source. Here's what we know. There were memos circulated not by the Clinton campaign but people who know Hillary. Neither the campaign or Hillary herself went public with any birther stuff.
Trump not only picked up the birther ball but made himself the defacto leader. Even after the BC cameout in 2011 he continued for the next 5 years.
Anyone trying to make the two equivalent is either completely dishonest or a complete moron.

I thought you were just engaging in hyperbole until I saw the interview. Holy crap. Pretty accurate assessment.
Pathological lying to make yourself look better, and being unfazed when someone calls you out on a lie are common symptoms among people with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. It is because the person with NPD has such a fragile ego that they can delude themselves to maintain the self image they have built.
FWIW, NPD is hard to treat and the most common therapy for people who know someone with NPD is to cut them out of your life. That will be hard to do if Trump becomes president.
Trump is at the core your typical loudmouth blathering buffoon. But what makes him worse than the typical LBB is that he's been very rich and successful for a long time, which reinforces this mentality. He doesn't have a boss, colleagues etc. to bring him back to earth every once in a while, so he keeps at it, getting worse and worse over time.
