UPS changed their rules?

I was going to pick up my UPS package at their shipping center today when they told me they sent my package back to the retailer.

They said they changed their rules last month and that they no longer hold packages for 5 days after the third attempt. They return them.

WTF?!?

Now I'm never going to use them.

So they return them after the third attempt now? What have you been doing for the last three attempts?

They always attempt delivery when one is at work?

I know that if UPS attempts to deliver a package to my home address, that attempt will fail because I'm never there. I try to have them deliver it to my work instead, but if someone ships UPS to my home, I always call them as soon as I get the notice and tell them to hold the package and not make any more delivery attempts. At that point I'm able to drive in either that night or sometime the next day.

It sucks that they don't hold it after three attempts but if you know you won't be at home during future delivery attempts, why keep letting them make attempts? Call them and tell them to hold onto it after the first one.

Somewhere in some back office location on the 4th sub basement of a UPS complex, an old man sheds a single tear that disappears into the darkness.

Some people have this thing during the day called work.

That really sucks...What if the retailer doesn't offer release without signing, I can't accept deliveries at work, and I have no alternate address to ship an item to? There are people who simply can not receive packages via UPS now because they can't be there for the delivery and can't pick up the item at the office. That hardly seems to make sense to me.

Thank you. Yes I have work but sometimes I hope I can get back in time to intercept them but it rarely happens.

Their reasoning is it saves on sending out the postcard to let you know they are holding it. At least that's what the CS person said.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but that is where I go when I'm waiting for a package to be delivered. The ones delivered home are nsfw or not easily transportable home in the car.

Not with UPS. With Fedex yes. I live in an apt building with no doorman so there is no place for them to leave it.

One time I signed the back of the delivery slip where it said I could ask them to leave it there without requiring a signature in person. They didn't deliver the package and just left a second delivery slip.

Again, OP, I'd say stop trying to intercept them in time and just call them after the first attempt and have them hold the package. Then pick it up when it's convenient. The way it worked for me is I called the 1-800 number, selected the "track a package" option, entered my tracking number, and when it asked if the arrangements were acceptable I said "no." It then allowed me to have them hold it at their distribution center. UPS then called me once it became available for pickup.

What's annoying is when they don't deliver to the leasing office, because I work so I'm never at home to sign for it. The leasing office accepts packages and I left a note on the door to deliver to the leasing office, but no dice, fucker just stuck another "attempted delivery" sticker up next to my note.

Cost me an hour round trip to get to their sorting facility, and the retailer had sent the wrong thing anyway. I wasn't a happy camper that day.

This was FedEx.

Some people have this thing during the day called work.

Some people have this thing called a telephone, and when they realize that their package won't be delivered with a signature, they call the number on the slip UPS leaves on their door and arrange to pick up the package. There's no reason to wait for them to make 3 attempts if you're not going to be home.

I don't understand why UPS can't hold the packages at the UPS store.

Kinda like how the Post Office will hold the package if you're not home to sign for it.

You're surprised that they sent the package back to sender after three tries? What were you expecting? They can't keep trying to deliver your package forever.

Now that you have decided to not use them ever again I see bad things in UPS's future. You were their entire business ...
