My Gaming rig. It was insured for $3000.00

It was dropped, kicked, thrown, and ripped. (The box that is)

I filed a claim, and the PC does not work.

What I want to know is, how will this work? (For those who have dealt with this)

I know the Claims inspector comes, sees the package, and decides what happens from there.

But my question is, do they settle for the amount of the parts that need to be replaced, or the whole thing?

Any Info is Appreciated..

I have pictures of the box before it was opened.

Should have instantly rejected delivery.

Record all pictures, keep all documentation, and such!

A Family member shipped it for me. But, when It came in, they took pictures of it sealed. Also, I filed the claim that night.

Document EVERYTHING. This is not going to be fun...

UPS is pretty horrible about throwing things around. I would never ship a desktop using UPS unless I double boxed with plenty of styrofoam (hard as well as free peanuts).

USPS on the other hand has never failed me...

When I shipped it, I used the original case packaging. Also, the box was in mint condition. Now it has creases, dents, a big rip/hole. So I filed, but how does this work? Do they give the insured amount? or am I going to have to diagnose it, and replace the parts.

How do you mean document everything? I have the pictures, they are calling to speak with me tomorrow. What else should I do?

Receipts for all hardware etc.

If you shipped a fully loaded computer in a COMPUTER CASE BOX... probably wasn't a good idea.

May work sometimes but sometimes it might not

Check their insurance requirements. They don't specify any particular packing procedures, do they?

I've heard of people being screwed on insurance by FedEx because they shipped a laptop or computer in a box that didn't meet their packaging guidelines. When the package was damaged, the insurance claim was denied because they didn't follow the packing requirements for insurance.

i sincerely hope it works out ok for you in the end, but regardless of the outcome, take it as a couple of lessons:

1. never ship a built computer. disassemble and ship components seperately. you must realize that your box will literally be subjected to airline luggage handling, only MUCH worse since its freight and not even people's duffle bags. and that's not counting the beating it will take in the trucks to and from pickup and dropoff.

2. if you can help it, never ship via UPS. ever.

let us know how it turns out.

Well, they came and saw the package. Sorry I never got the pics up. Pretty much, the case was warped, from either being dropped BADLY or slammed. It had obviously been sat on, the side window, was popped in. The heatsink was bent badly, and my PSU looked like it was kicked in.

This was all packaged properly too, so someone had to have beaten it.

They are in the process of filing my claim as we speak.

You can't do too much at the moments. Get as much documentation and as many pictures as you possibly can, and keep up on the paperwork.

I offered to un-mount the Heatsink, memory, cpu, and unplug everything. The person wanted it fully operational.

Then I doubt it would have arrived in good condition anyway.

i work for a Fortune 400 company that just kicked UPS to the curb for DHL.

too many claims...and too many associate hours on those claims.

Personally I would never use UPS for anything. I have had some problems with USPS and FedEx...no one is perfect.

I ship about 1 package a week on average personally, and at least double that professionally.

UPS claims I have been involved in have been paid though for the most part...however; they have taken about 3-6 months though and a ton of phone time. One that was denied was denied based "no computer found" over and over again when I was shipping a Yamaha RX-V1050 Receiver. Finally it was denied as "insufficient packing for computer". I packed it in a foamed doublewalled box...I placed that box in another with about 6 inches of foam around it.

The box had holes and all the corners were majorly dented...my bet is it was on purpose.

The only thing I can say about this is I think the UPS team is mostly unsupervised or things it's the company deal to screw up expensively insured packages like the 4 LCDS I just got paid $600 for they cremated and we had those packed professionally. Claim also took months of faxes, emails and phone time. I am willing to bet based on the cost of my time we LOST MONEY even though they finally paid.

I hope DHL does a better job.
