Upgrade time again. Thinking about putting a 10 Megabit server online

Pretty good deal with a local provider, machine has a 10 Megabit cap with unlimited (pretty good quality) bandwidth.

Anyone looking to stream and/or share stuff out there? I wouldn't mind sharing it with some folks, it could also serve as the "atot" multimedia dumping ground.

Ok well I think I'm going to go for it, 10megabit with no cap is unheard of at that price. I'd like to find a responsible (read: no game server, spam or pr0n) person to split it down the middle, ideally. Specs:

Celeron 2.0Ghz
512 RAM
80 GB DRIVE
10 megabits (use whatever you want, capped at 10meg)
13 IP Available
cpanel

Is anyone out there looking for an arrangement like this?

It's a 10megabit cap, so it's not unlimited. Servers are sold like this all the time.

Price would be split, $55 each/mo.

In this case there is... the bandwidth is unmetered however the line is capable of about 3.2TB / month.

Well, yes and no. You can buy a server that has "unlimited bandwidth" and such, but in reality it really does have a cap. The cap would be that the line maxes out at 10 megabits... So you can't go more than the line will hold. I'm sure if you were maxing the line out 24/7 though they might have a problem with it.

I have a server that has pretty good specs:
P4 2.8
2x40 gig hard drives
512 ram
1000 gigs of bandwidth
5 ips
cpanel
$120/month

If you want to work out a deal with mine I might be able to do that sifl... right now the server is almost unused except for a few of my sites and I host a cs server.

For that price I would go with ServerMatrix... same as my specs (excpet a P4 2.4) for $119. True you might not get the "unlimited" bandwidth, but I think you would get better bang for the buck... or you could consider my offer. Whatever works for you.

They have no more left, it's rackonline, aka nectartech in San Jose. They seem to have a good WHT rating.

I have more than one, but an extra wouldn't hurt ;)

cpals, thanks but I don't want a game server taxing the resources, it can bog things down quite a bit..

Actually, I can't even tell the server is going on it... even with the server maxed (16 players) it only pulls around 512k of bandwidth. That's cool though. My server load never goes above .10 usually.

Contrary to popular belief game servers do not use a ton of bandwidth nor do they use too many CPU resources. I've helped run a fair number of game servers that also had a pretty active community webpage with forums etc and neither affected the other. Granted a few of the servers I helped run would need a hell of a lot of people & downloading to make an impact when they had a 43 Mbit connection and were running with 8 CPUs and over a gig of RAM ;).

I hear ya, I don't really want to have to deal with it being on there and becoming a possible issue, that's all.

Bumpage, still looking for someone interesting in splitting this w/me.

Hey,

how can they offer that dedicated box for just $110/mo for 10mbps? That works out to $11/Mbps which is way below any normal price I have seen (even for cogent). I'd assume they must oversell their bandwidth very aggressively.

Do you have any comment? If this can be proved legitimate then I am interested ;)

Wow $55/mo and includes cPanel? Nice price!

Whoever you split it with will receive a WHM resellers account I'm assuming, right?

Is Rackonline/Nectartech located or associated with AboveNet in San Jose?

probably WOULD be cheaper to split an unmetered 10mbits. they run from 400-600 depending on hardware specifications  .. should be considered if one cannot fully utilize the 10mbit pipe haha.. my opinion. servermatrix was good for a while, until their setup fee kicked in :(
