Yea, yesterday I also doubled checked with our technology center director, he told be to his knowledge, they don't even offer upgrade versions and they should be the retail keys.

That really makes the rebuild quite tempting lol. The only problem I see with that now is that if I were to theoretically rebuild my PC, I would have to "pay off" the 530 my stepdad spent on this PC first before I would get free reign to just go off and build my next PC....Not to mention its hella more conspicious and he/they'll get on my case cause I'm "wasting money".

God, living at home sucks. I can't even spend the money I earn the way I want.

Any ideas you guys think I could use to convince them of a new build?

It's not really a "new build," just a "platform swap". You are keeping all the same infrastructure and drives. ;)

Lol..ur right. The case, HDD, and possibly the PSU will stay the same ;) Totes the same "PC". Haha. Well I could always ship some of the smaller parts to work and order some stuff off of amazon and say I was ordering books. Slip it in right under their noses and "pay off" my old PC. Although I would lose my old W7 Home Premium liscense.

Btw, for MIRs, did any one have trouble getting those redeemed if you ship something to your work address or your friend's address? Like, if you ship it to work, do you have to put down your work address as the address on the rebate and etc.

Also on a slight segue, i3 2120 or i5 2400/2500. I'm planning on getting a kinda cheap MicroATX (prolly ASUS, or ASRock) mobo for about 60USD, so I"m not sure if I could easily overclock. But in my situation, what would you recommend to tide me over until my next "build". And I guess, I'm willing to expand my budget since I'm no longer just "upgrading".

You should be OK having the MIR sent to a different address than where the items were shipped. Every MIR form that I've seen lets you write in an address.

As for upgrading the CPU, yes it will give you some benefit over the G620 that I recommended, but you will need to increase your budget by about $100.

Anyways thanks for all the help guys. I've decided to overhaul my PC and order my parts in batches. My PSU and 6850 just came yesterday.

I just have one more question.

But when I installed on my MicroATX motherboard, I find out that the tail end of the card covers the Southbridge heatsink. I don't think they're touching but I don't think there's a lot of clearance there either. Maybe less than 1/2 centimeter.

Should I be worried? I won't be able to get my mobo until a month later? Should I uninstall the gfx card and put my old budget radeon in there until I finish my build?

As long as it's only the heatsink and the edge of the video card PCB (or plastic shroud), it wouldn't even matter if they were actually touching. Nothing to worry about.

Damn...I feel so bad for necro-ing this thread again. But I found out that I actually have 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, 1333mhz. I wonder if for my new build I should just buy another set of 2x 4gb, making two sets of "Dual Channel" RAM? (although I probably won't be able to batch exacted model, maybe brand since its G-Skill) or should I just scrap the old RAM. Is it recommended that I try to match the DIMMs?

Yea...I'm really out of practice with this PC Hardware stuff lol.

4gb is okay

2 sticks =duel channel
4sticks = quad channel.

Just stick with the ram you have. And buy more later

I believe only the LGA 2011 boards can support Quad Channel memory set-ups. Other than that boards with 4 DIMM slots will just run 2 sets of dual-channel memory when they're all being used, so as long as you place them properly to match your ram modules to each other I'd say buy some more ram and just add it into the machine.

I see. So I don't need to match the exact make and model of the 2nd set of RAM then to the first one?

I.E., just match DIMM Size and Frequency?

Thank you very much.
