My friend bought a Tbird 900 along with a Abit KT7 mobo.Since his cabinet is delayed, we thought we could assemble the mobo on my DELL P2 400 mhz.We dis-assembled everything from my comp and proceeded to attach the power cable to the mobo.
As soon as we did, even with the power off , we heard a high pitch whine from the mobo. I am not sure where excatly from the mobo the sound came from. We had not even installed any of the components yet. We are not able to get the power going even on flicking the switch.(the case fan doesn't spin)
But the problem disappers as soon as I connenct my old mobo. This mobo is smaller than the Abit.
Can anyone tell me what the problem is and what mistake I am doing? Also is there anyone out there who has upgraded to a AMD chip using the same cabinet? Do you think I might have damaged the motherboard and CPU?
Thanks in advance,
Harsha
