So you think she's justified. That's your position and you have the right to take that stance. But to say you have no right to judge is taking a different, uncaring stance. Sort of like "I don't care if you are right or wrong, do whatever you want." That would make someone complicit. I am against the death penalty and don't think people should be begging for money to go watch the execution. It is what it is, but if I just said "whatever", I'd be working against my own personal beliefs

I mean...they have the right to..."celebrate?" however they see fit, but this is rather stupid.

Maybe I wouldn't care if they weren't seeking help from strangers to fund their petty and short-sighted little trip.
 
Instead of being a victim, and giving her poor daughter's killer some kind of sick joy out of knowing she is suffering, why doesn't she start a charity and use the money for that? Maybe a foundation to stop this from happening in the future, raise awareness, etc etc.

and +1 to a wtf as to why she needs $4k?
 
When I read the story I wished I had extra money to donate.

Reading everyone's post I thought that 4k is too much for the trip, but compare that to the cost of this Dbags time in prison and court process and its a drop in the bucket.

Finally I came to the conclusion that this would end without satisfaction. You killed my daughter and now I watch you die. My daughter was raped (beaten?) and had her throat cut and you get a gentle nap? Wait a second....

I agree with the charity idea.

How do you know this will bring them more misery and pain? How do you know it won't help them heal? Are you a clinical psychologist? Have you studied these types of cases from the victim's families point of view?

I actually don't know if it will help or hurt them, but they believe it will help so that's their choice.

I think there will be some satisfaction, but I don't know whether her expectations are reasonable. Knowing that the Dbag is gone, will never hurt anyone else, will never see sunshine again, etc....that would be somewhat satisfying.

I'm trying to imagine what the last 21 years have been like for these people. Their precious daughter murdered and desecrated by that Dbag, the feeling that they didn't do enough to protect her. The claims of his innocence, the trial, a verdict overturned, another trial, another conviction, more appeals.

Easy to see why she would think the world will be a better place without him in it.

I hope she finds peace, in any case.

Our society really undervalues the benefits of retribution.

Why don't we just let her rape and murder one of his Nieces or Nephews as Tribute...It would pretty much be the same type of thing, ya know?

I am against capital punishment. And I think the circumstance of his death is going to be too benign to give her any satisfaction.

But I have a $100 to donate for her. Far be it from me to dissuade her from getting whatever little she can from this. At least she can tell herself she saw that dirt bag die.

They mention an account, but not how to donate to it.

Seeing the guy die wont make the pain go away, it wont even make a dent. Also, 4g's will get you a pretty sweet rental car and damn nice hotels, if she really wants to go she'll ride the dog and sleep on floors. She only had what, a decade to plan for this?

i just did a 5000 mile family trip over the summer and spend about 2400 overall. mebbe she has a new ipad3 and cell phone listed as trip necessities.
 
It's common for the victims family to be at the trial, this is just the conclusion to that process. I don't see what the difference is.

Agree with Don Vito, only way it would make her feel better would be if she exacted revenge on her own in a much more personal way. Similar to the murderer in Lady Vengeance. 🙂

This won't help her at all, I also think it's a silly idea, but then I think capital punishment is absolute rubbish.
