UPDATED: Want to help someone see their daughters murderer die?

If she wants to go then fine, it's her choice. I don't see how anyone can tell this woman that she shouldn't. If I had some spare cash I would donate... I hope she gets enough and even if there is some left over, I'm not even bothered, it's a small amount compared to the pain and suffering she has gone through over such a long time.

Obviously it's her choice. Nobody is saying she should be prevented from going. I don't even have a problem with her soliciting money to go - it's up to each individual whether they want to help her. All I said is that I would not assist her in going because I am confident that seeing this death will do her more harm than good.

In general I think people who endorse this sort of thing in the name of revenge haven't actually dealt with the aftermath of awful crimes like murder and molestation. I have. I don't believe for one second that her life will be enhanced by watching her daughter's killer put to sleep - to the contrary it will very likely be just another incredibly shocking and traumatic event in her life.

You might be right - but you seem to be talking from experience (if not, you are just conjecturing).

For anybody not having the benefit of that experience - somebody who has suffered but has not had closure - the need to do this would be most compelling.

Like the stages of grief, closure has its own stages - if you are unable to protect your child from harm, you want to help them recover; if you can't do that, you want to avenge them; if you are denied that, then being personally present when they receive judgement for their act offers a promise of closure, albeit diluted.

For all the pronouncements here on the effectiveness of that closure, nobody other than her can decide how important it is to her to make that attempt. It is possible it may not help her, but it is equally possible that she'll sleep better afterwards.

I'll continue to search for ways to donate my $100 to her cause.

God knew this little girl before she was formed in the womb. She was very special to God and he had a special plan for her life, just like he has a special plan for all of us. God's love runs deep for this girl and her family. Isn't God's plan wonderful? If you don't believe in God's plan, your are lost, confused and are abnormal. You can lead an atheist to evidence, but you can't make him think. God's plan makes perfect sense.

All the evidence of God's special plan for her boggles my mind. Must be a mighty vindictive personality, this god of yours.

You're right I don't think she will have any closure in watching this poor, poor man die, instead they should give her a straight razor and cut his throat and then disembowel him. Now that would make me feel better if it were one of my daughters.

no no it makes perfect sense--god sent his own "son" down to be hated and murdered by the people he loved, so that we could all be forgiven for some unrelated naked people eating an apple in some fairy tail. Then, his son's zombification assured that we are all loved by this god, and that we are all chosen...somehow.

it therefore makes perfect sense that this same god would somehow "create" a human embryo in some random northeastern American woman's womb, only to have that human embryo to develop into a precious, loved girl, that would eventually be raped and murdered by a savage criminal that god also created into his own perfect image. It all makes perfect sense--God hated that woman, and wanted her to suffer, as well as her child, so that we might all learn something about.....faith?

😵

Glad that sick animal is getting put down like one. Better yet, he should have done to him what he did to that poor 9 year old.

This is something I don't understand either. Why do we care if he suffers before he dies? The only reason to put him through anything painful is to correct his behavior. In a cultural and evolutionary sense, the desire to hurt people who do horrible things has probably been very useful in stopping them from doing further horrible things. However, he's a dead man walking. Any lessons he learns from his pain before death would only be carried with him to whatever awaits him after death. It does no good here. If it does no good here, then why waste the time and energy doing it?

HAVING SAID THAT:

Right now it seems our current justice system is a joke. We have a high turnover for criminals and no one is getting any better. We need to do like Japan or Germany and actually fix people.

Too bad they don't still do hangings. That would be much more satisfying.

Although it would also be frustrating because I'd want to kill the bastard myself. Preferably in the slowest, most agonizing way possible.

Which makes you remind me of the killer. Both into killing for your own pleasure, even if you only do it to people who commit crimes. It's still a similarity.

Coincidence? The moon is blue and I pretty much agree with a post by shorty.

This. The purpose of justice is to prevent the criminal from committing more crimes and to server as a deterrent to others. That is all.

Not really.

The justice system is also meant to punish - just not 'cruel and unusual' punishment.

It should also have a rehabilitative function, but there isn't much of that.

It's a mess, but citizens aren't doing well at improving it.
