Someone commented on the youtube video that the blacked out grill looked cool. To tell you the truth, it didn't really dawn on me until now that it was blacked out instead of all chrome. I am definitely happy this is the case. I hate too much chrome on the vehicle. It looks so much more aggressive the way it is. I tend to find little nuances about this car that I love the more I drive it.

Alright, so I'm not the most mechanically inclined individual when it comes to cars, but other than a good cleaning and wax job, is there anything else useful I should do to my new car? I'm not looking to spend a whole lot of money here. I know we're going to get our windows tinted soon, but my brother in law suggested I switch to synthetic oil immediately and keep it synthetic from now on.... but I've also heard suggestions NOT to do this. Anyways, any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

You can put synthetic in or not, doesn't matter as long as you follow your OCI. Won't change a thing to the car unless you live in a very cold climate.

I would suggest you consider a good sealant job like Klasse or Zaino. Follow your break-in instructions from the manufacturer. Keep up normal maintenance and your good to go.

You realized you just filmed that vid in a closed garage with an internal combustion engine running, right? Does look nice, though, quite a lot of gear for $20k.

The "air flow man" is huge. Looks nifty, though.

EDIT: Just read about the car, it really seems a heck of a deal for $20k. Pretty decent power and excellent gas mileage.

Haha, yeah, someone already mentioned that i had the garage door closed. OH well... I remember reading somewhere that exhaust systems are so much more efficient that you'd have to run it for a LONG time before it became dangerous.

Oh, and the "air flow man" is actually kind of strange. You press the body portion to change the air flow, but the head doesn't press at all. Everybody who gets in the car always tries to press the head and invariably says, "well, that's kind of weird..." Ah well... I love the rest of it.

I gotta be honest, I really think that car is pretty ugly... However, I do like Hyundais and I'm sure its a great car. I liked my Elantra rental I had last year.. Very nice car to drive.

QFT. Follow the maintenance schedule in the manual and you probably won't have a single major problem with it. That's seriously a great looking car. I've been a fan of Hyundai ever since 2006 and the 2010/2011 models have cemented them as one of my favorite manufacturers.

edit: OMG I just watched the video. I *love* the steering wheel on that thing. I like that you mention that "your wife has got the groceries." Hahaha

Interesting, my rental car I just picked up is a 2011 Sonata. Seems pretty slick so far, definitely more kick than the 4 cyl Altima I had last week (or maybe the CVT just made it seem slower).

I have zero experience with Hyundai, but I can say the quality is indistinguishable from a Toyota/Honda/Nissan, and it has one of the most powerful 4 cyls on the market. 10 miles on it when I picked it up. 😉

First thing I did was hit the "air flow man" in the feet, not the head. Havent determined if that actually matters or if the whole thing is a toggle button and simply cycles options.

2011 Hyundai Sonata: 198 HP
2010 Honda Accord: 177 HP
2010 Ford Fusion: 175 HP
2010 Nissan Altima: 175 HP
2010 Chevy Malibu: 169 HP

Yeah... and it gets the best fuel economy in the segment. Plus the largest interior and the lowest price point and awesome reliability scores. You cannot beat that combination.

LOL! Is that a Recaro baby seat? It looks exactly like the seats in my car...lol

The instrument cluster looks pretty nice, but the rest of the blue on the front looks kinda bright. Can it dim down a little bit?

Although the EX and EX-L I4 Accords are at 190HP. The Sonata does have them beat on MPG.

One thing that's been bugging me on the Sonata: the B pillar is huge and in your face and I pretty much cant check my blind spot without sticking my head out the window. Combine that with unfamiliarity of the roads here, and it makes for some exhilarating lane changes into the left lane on the freeway ;P

Loving the power though, and that's coming from someone used to 400+ HP. It's feisty for a 4 cyl and feels like it could easily take down many V6s.

If you're side view mirrors are set properly, you never have a blind spot. I never have to worry about looking over my shoulder.

It's just a habit for me; I like to be able to see clear to my left rear corner just by turning my head, regardless how well the mirrors are adjusted. The B pillar seems really wide and close to my head, and what visibility there might be from the rear window is completely negated by a C pillar and a 3" x 3" little piece of pointless corner glass 😛

Another thing is that it seems that you sit really high up, combined with the steep slope of the glass, makes your feel like a giant and constantly having to duck down to look under the top of the windshield. I'm 6'3" 220 lbs; it's not that the car doesn't feel roomy, more like the non power seats just sit too high and I haven't found a way to lower them (nor have I really looked all that hard).

Not griping or anything, just sharing my 3 days experience.

I totally agree that it sits a little high. Actually, I'm 6'1 220 and even the power seats sit high. I prefer higher seating myself, though. The B and C pillars are definitely huge, but I guess that's a sacrifice you make with a 4 door coupe design. One of the first things I noticed on the car actually was that 3x3 window in the back. My first thought was, "seriously"? Even the guy quoting my car for tint asked me about it. Very odd, but nothing serious.
I guess so far my biggest complaints are that the drivers seat doesn't really hold you on lateral movements (turning right and left) as well as other cars, and the accelerator pedal reaching all the way to the floor... very annoying.
