? Outbreak has slowly grown to nearly 300 cases in 39 states since August
? CDC: Outbreak thought to be first in U.S. history linked to peanut butter
? About 20 percent of the 288 infected people have been hospitalized
? FDA: Don't eat Peter Pan or Great Value with product code starting "2111"
I've got a jar of Peter Pan here in my office with product code 2111 that I use almost everyday to make a few sandwiches. :Q

UPDATE 3/1/07:

Even more product recalled by ConAgra. Products produced all the way back in December 2005 have been recalled.

I plan to as the recall is just a precautionary measure. If I was really worried out it I run micros on the peanut butter in my QA lab. 😛

Just checked the pantry. Sure enough, we have two jars of Peter Pan brand, starting with the now infamous 2111 code. :Q One jar hasn't been opened. The other is about one sandwich away from being empty. I'll post again when I return from the Emergency Room.

I've got a jar of Peter Pan at the house that's about half gone with the 2111 code on it. The previous jar probably had the same code too but it's gone. It was buy one get one free at Publix. I'm not concerned about it.

"Choosy mothers choose Jif"
But choosy peanut-butter eaters choose Skippy!

Have they determined the cause of the Salmonella? Not like there's raw eggs in it or anything.

I like how this basically publicizes the fact that Peter Pan peanut butter is the exact same stuff as Great Value brand (which is Walmart brand basically). So you are indeed paying more money for the Peter Pan label than getting the exact same stuff for cheaper with the walmart brand.
