I eat quite a bit of peanut butter, and prefer the taste of Peter Pan over Jif (maybe I should try skippy sometime) and I didn't really recall getting particularly sick anytime since August, and just checked and the jar in the cabinet is 2111, and it's half gone so, yeah I'm guessing maybe it's people with weak immune systems.

I'm curious if it's just people who have a weak immune system or possibly they just haven't been exposed to this strain and so it made them sick. There certainly seems to be a large number of Salmonella cases lately though.

I have two jars of Peter Pan with the 2111 number. One is brand new and the other is almost empty. I haven't felt good the past week, but I don't think its related to the peanut butter. Anyway I'm going to throw the jars away and buy something else.

I usually buy peter pan, but for the last few months I have been on a nutella kick instead of peanut butter.

I just completed a whole jar of 2111 PP PB & I have a unpoened jar of Great Value 2111 PB sitting in my kitchen. For some odd reason I cant get myself to throw away the unopened jar of PB.

if it's just salmonella, shouldn't they be just recommending the PB be thoroughly cooked before enjoying?

Anyways, they haven't actually found any salmonella in the PB, just a corellation. The salmonella could be in the chocolate or the jelly that people eat with their PB. I have an unopened jar of the stuff myself, just got it a week ago, was going to make peanut butter brownies with it. sigh.

Jif, Peter Pan is the same as putting Sugar, a stick of margarine and a bottle of peanuts into a blender.

I prefer t make my sandwiches with just the peanuts, as margarine gives me heartburn.
Apparently this makes me classist.

Checked my jar of Peter Pan peanut butter and sure enough the code on top starts with 2111. I had already eaten about 2/3 of the jar. I havent gotten sick but I threw it away anyway.

My mom bought 2 jars (and got 2 free) when it was on sale.

She returned all 4 jars on Friday, and got reimbursed for all 4 jars instead of just 2.

Oh crap.

I thought the number was 2114; I remembered wrong.

There are two jars of Peter Pan PB on the table - both are 2111 codes. The other guys in the apartment eat that peanut butter, and thus far they haven't died. Maybe they haven't reached the tasty layer of cow feces on the bottom of the jar - it's just like fruit-on-the-bottom yogurt. Tasty.

I was in Wal-Mart yesterday and they had cleared their shelves of all peanut butter (all brands not just Peter Pan). I think they might be over-reacting a bit on this.

Lol infamous product code 2111, I think all the peanut butter jars are goanna say that. I believe the reason why they're doing this is because when the outbreak is over, the new peanut butter jars are going to have a different product code and they don't want people who haven't been "updated" to the fact the out break is over to start throwing those away... So basically speaking, all those jars are going to have it whether or not they really have salminella or not.. If you're concerned about getting sick, then put it into the microwave and nuke it for a bit before eating...

Salmonella is from chickens, not from cows. You're thinking of E. coli...

Yea... so I just found a jar of the Peter Pan 2111 code too. I ate about half of the jar and no problems yet. I guess I'll stop eating it now. Though the last time I ate it was about 2 weeks ago. I figure if nothing happened yet I should be ok.

300 people is not an outbreak. I'll take my chances and keep eating peanut butter.
