I wouldn't buy an Xbox, I'd get a Gamecube. Here's a list of the games that I like/am looking forward to on each system:

PS2:

-Final Fantasy X (It's ok)
-Metal Gear Solid 2
-Castlevania
-Ico
-Prince of Persia

Gamecube:

-Mario Kart Double Dash
-Super Smash Brothers Melee
-Zelda
-Metroid
-Super Mario Sunshine (it's ok from what I've seen)
-Viewtiful Joe (not sure if it's exclusive or not)

X-Box:

-Starwars: Attack of the Clones

I had an Xbox, at least until it died two days after I got it. At $180, I think it's the worst deal of all of the consoles, especially if you don't want racing or sports games.

Ross, I would seriously consider getting an Xbox but that's not a Hot Deal. That's the same deal as 2 months ago.

However, there won't be any new consoles coming out for a couple years so IMHO, Xbox is the best console to get right now.

Right now, it already has great games such as Crimson Skies, Project Gotham Racing 2, GTA Vice City / GTA3 Bundle, Counter-Strike, Magic: The Gathering - Battlegrounds, all sports series (Madden, NBA Live, NHL Rivals, etc.), Need for Speed Underground, Star Wars: Jedi Academy, and etc.

More importantly you should look into games that will come out soon as well. For Xbox, following games are on my wait list: Deus Ex: Invisible WAR, Halo 2, Jade Empire, and etc.

Out of that list, Deus EX and Halo 2 alone can easily justify the price for Xbox.

Also, if you are thinking about online game play, Xbox is simply the best. PS2 and Gamecube is horrible in online gaming.

Go for it. The recent games that have come out for the Xbox is impressive. Rainbow Six and Crimson Skies are must buys.

Aren't most of those coming out for PC as well though?

I am not sure... but in any case, gaming on a big HDTV tv with surround sound is a lot more fun than your 19' LCD 🙂

Yeah, it's great. I'm all about Paratroopa.

If you've got a big screen, buy it, if not, stick with PC gaming😀

I can always get a better deal on PC games, the console game prices seem to be fixed & little competition.

You could get the walmart GC deal And the apex 29.97 DVD player.(Have two from next year and will get another this year for the bedroom.

There are three reasons to get any console system:

  • Sports games - because they royally suck with keyboard and mouse
  • Racing games - because they feel better on a console
  • Fighting games - because they too suck with a keyboard and mouse

If you intend on experiencing these genre's of video gaming, they are better served on a console. My PS2 has gotten little action over the last 2 years, and my library consists of only the above game styles because I prefer the PC for everything else.

All of those can be fixed by simply buying a game controller for your PC. I have one. It's a PS1 type controller. It was $7.

My boy love his GC. I love the wireless controllers. Not tripping over those when walking through the living room is a big plus for me. 🙂

Depends on the games really. If you like the games on XBox then go for it.

Ive had one since launch in 2001 and I spend most of my console gaming time on my Gamecube. Don't get me wrong I like the XBox, but sometimes I wished I had just got the Gamecube early, or even got a PS2.

Also XBox Live from what Ive heard (don't have it) is really great if your into online gaming.

All three systems have their own advantages and disadvantages, what it really comes down to is what games you want to play.

I also play the gamecube more than anything else, I have all 3 consoles. I still think the xbox is a just a crappy pc in a different shape. I enjoy halo and panzer dragoon though.

I thought the same thing last year...and ended up buying the xbox...played maybe 20 times in a year...now I use it only for dvd playback..

should of bought a nice progressive scan dvd player instead.

I'll tell you this....if you haven't been into consoles since PS2...you probably outgrew them like I did..

I'm the same way. I just use my PS2 for DVDs. Not many games look all that great, and those that do aren't worth $50. FFX and MGS2 were both so laughably easy that I beat them quickly. Neither really has any replay value.

looking great is matter of opinion.
the ps2 continues to have the exclusive content people care about and the sales show it.
the xbox is getting outsold by systems that arent even supported anymore in japan, whether you like it or not..that does make a difference.

the xbox will continue to be a haven for subpar pc ports and b grade american games.

Wow, really? I didn't know that.

Wait, is that opinion or fact? I'm having a hard time telling without your guidance.

Wait, I think I've got it. That's opinion, right?

Have you looked at the games on the different systems to see which has the games you'd want to play?

Nope. I was hoping that buying an X-Box might get me more interested in console video games.

A friend recently bought GTA double pack for X-Box so I can borrow that anytime or his dozen other games.

if you want to play console games get a gamecube(for nintendos exlusive content) or a ps2.
the xbox is devoid of much of the japanese support these consoles have.
if you want to play watered down pc ports and belated bastardized 3rd party ports of other systems get an xbox.

I might go with GC but I'm not a big fan of Zelda.

Besides Mario what other exclusive content does GC have to offer?
