I'm considering buying the Black Friday @ CC X-Box bundle for $179.99 (Clone Wars and Tetris worlds) with free starter kit.

Here's our situation
  • I'm not really into FPS or sports games.
  • We don't have a DVD Player for our bedroom TV, so we could use the X-Box to watch DVD movies.
  • We have DSL broadband with WiFi.
  • Do you consider this to be a Hot Deal on an X-Box?
  • Is there a new X-Box coming out soon?

Thank you for your advice.

Have you looked at the games on the different systems to see which has the games you'd want to play?

Nope. I was hoping that buying an X-Box might get me more interested in console video games.

A friend recently bought GTA double pack for X-Box so I can borrow that anytime or his dozen other games.

Considering it comes with a free starter kit ($50), 2 above average games ($100) and the actual XBox itself for $179.99...I'd go for it.

I think I would only get an x-box if I didn't have a good gaming rig.

I own a Gamecube and will have a PS2 in a few days.

No on all accounts, unless you're going to do that Linux trick. ;)

There's at least one Gamecube bundle deal on black friday... 79 bucks for a GC and a Zelda bonus disc at WM. Of course, no DVD player.

I love my Xbox but if you don't like sports or racing games, then I dunno if you'd get full use out of your Xbox.

You can put a mod-chip in your Xbox and do all kinds of crazy things..check out http://www.xbox-scene.com

Depends on the games really. If you like the games on XBox then go for it.

Ive had one since launch in 2001 and I spend most of my console gaming time on my Gamecube. Don't get me wrong I like the XBox, but sometimes I wished I had just got the Gamecube early, or even got a PS2.

Also XBox Live from what Ive heard (don't have it) is really great if your into online gaming.

All three systems have their own advantages and disadvantages, what it really comes down to is what games you want to play.

The starter kit sounds kind of lame - I bought a Madcatz one from Targej on clearance for about $10 - came with a controller, (steaming pile of crap) dvd drive cleaner, controller extension, and something else. You could always wait until next year when it will probably drop in price. Not that good a deal imo.

If it's the starter kit I'm thinking off, it comes with Mechassault, a year of x-box live, and some other stuff.

Yeah. If it's some cheesy starter kit like the one someone else was talking about, then the deal really isn't that special.

It's the day after Thanksgiving, the biggest shopping day of the year. Normally all major stores have huge sales.

I bought an xbox recently.

- I like FPS, but they suck with a controller so you're not missing anything there, imo. Sport/Racing games are pretty much all I enjoy on the xbox. I've spent roughly $600 on games since I purchased it a month or two back, and am still look for satisfaction. I'm not claming that the xbox is a bad system by any means, instead, maybe I'm just not the gamer I used to be, and it was a bad purchase on my behalf.

- Big plus for the extra DVD player (big negative that you have to buy the $30 kit). I've found the extra player very useful though.

- Xbox Live is supposed to be the big ticket.

- Not really. I have the option of returning my xbox and getting the packaged deal free of charge, but I'm not interested.

- Not in the near future.

I would follow others advice and see which platform offers the most games you like. I would like to add that I don't see why people like to compare the xbox to the pc saying you/they don't need one because they have a good rig. Just because it's made by Microsoft and has the same recognizable hardware as a PC doesn't make them similar. Also there are many many more titles that you can get on the xbox that are not offered on the PC than you can get on both. On another note, it might be fact or just my personal opinion, but I think you're getting better graphics with an xbox than most of your PC games because game developers are trying to maximize the xbox potential where as with a PC, they have to develop games for a wide variety of platforms/systems. I?m not saying the xbox has better hardware (cause it doesn?t obviously), but better graphic engines.

I think the deal right now is the 2 games and a free steering wheel for racing games. Most new games come with a 2 month free subscription for xbox live.

i vote for the gamecube. I mean, chances are, you already have a DVD player, and if you don't, a gamecube and separate dvd player together is still about the same price as that package. However, the GC seems to sport better titles. I havn't really been impressed with anything on the XBox except for Soul Calibur 2 and Halo.
