<< I asked why the invoice says to call IBM for support and he told me that he would tell his boss it needs correcting. >>

I don't need to see pictures of your drive, ausm. I was only letting you know what you should look for to determine that it is a Dell branded IBM HDD. The invoice for the 80GB 120GXP I received yesterday states "this item is to be serviced by IBM....". I purchased a 'bare' OEM drive and that's what I received. I have a 3yr warranty thru IBM. There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying OEM 'bare' drives.

Newegg should not be selling OEM mfg (Dell, GW2K, HP, etc) drives, although it looks like a few might have slipped thru the cracks.

* I just wanted to clarify this since I am not sure you truly understand the difference, ausm.

No problem. I emailed IBM last night about my drive so that others can see that Newegg is not in the business of 'always' shipping a OEM mfg. HDD.

John,

Thank You for contacting the IBM Technical Support Center!

Your IBM hard drive with serial number (A4G0xxxx) is under warranty until
December of 2004.

Best Regards,
Jason

I'm glad this has resolved...Newegg is a 1st rate vendor. But I'm just wondering if anybody thought that ausm may have been slightly unclear, or that the IBM rep would have heard him wrong when he was reading the serial number? Its possible...I'm glad its fixed now though.

<< and even if i did I wouldnt be buying a crappy IBM drive. ever since there 75gxp they have proven to not being able to make a decent drive >>

Wow one mistake and they suck, you know I always see other hard drives being RMAed here! A matter of fact my IBM 60 GXP is the greatest drive I've ever owned.

new egg is awesome...i've read many posts where they didn't even charge restocking fees for returns if the buy did not want an exchange

bought over a dozen products from them over the past year and everything has run great :)

newegg buys there drives from a large dist called MTC....Walnut.Ca...MTC drives there truck over to the Tech-Data warehouse in Ontario,Ca...and loads up on "OEM-Gray Market HD's" from compaq,IBM etc...." the drives are NEVER !! re-furbs...they are real-oem drives...that compaq, ibm where allocated for that month...(that they never sell anyway...so they sell to tech-data)...

Opps... wrong thread. I will edit that and try to find the correct thread that was supposed to go into.
You are right. I was bored at work and the other thread was just two people bashing each other saying the same things in OT. I just had two reply threads open.

Glad to hear your problem got fixed.
