So you just bought the drive...and it's busted? And you have to RMA to Dell? Is that what you're saying?

But does it work at all? Do you have to RMA it, and that's why you're screwed?

Was this a refurbished drive in the first place?

It gives a windows Error during formatting...I was not aware if it was refurbished because newegg was selling it as a "new" drive

It's obvious you purchased an OEM or Refurb. Cause the Retail would be in a sealed box that only IBM would have been inside. How long was your warranty? Did you CALL Newegg and see about them RMA'ing it? If its OEM they usually provide some warranty, and you could still be in that period? Have you even spoken to NEwegg? It really sounds like your trolling Newegg and you havent even given all the info. If you purchased an OEM drive, then it could have very well been from DELL, but you did purchase OEM, so it's not like Newegg "screwed you"

FYI, NEWEGG JUST RIPPED ME OFF ALSO. I ordered a XP 1800+ and an Epox 8kha+ on Friday. I received the motherboard this morning!!! Via FedEx Saver, all the way from Cali (and i'm in Tn). Thanks NEwegg!! lol thats service

"I was not aware if it was refurbished because newegg was selling it as a "new" drive"

The only new drives they sell would be in retail boxes. Me thinks you just didnt know what you were ordering. Got a link to the product?

Honestly, I don't think it's Newegg's problem. It's yours. You knew you bought and OEM HD--NON RETAIL. So you should know what's up with the warrenty. Just confirm what the warrenty is before you buy something like that.

Did they advertise this as being a Retail drive?
If so, then they definitely screwed you.

Did the inform you prior to sale that there was no warranty on it from them or IBM?

Thats odd...because you can buy a OEM Maxtor and it comes with a 3 year warrenty no questions asked....I am not trolling Newegg. I believe that they are erroneous saying on my Invoice that IBM will provide service for the drive. I think it is a misleading statement Especially when I get off the phone with a RMA Rep from IBM and after I gave him the S/N off the drive he said I was SCREWED.....also he asked where I got it from and I told him so there is aalot more people out in cyberland also fvucked....If I am trolling trying to prevent someone else from being screwed then please excuse me ;)

Thats why I am a little afriad of buying OEM IBM drives. They got bad RMA policy. I got a drive that is still under warrenty date, but they won't let me RMA it because I lost the receipt of purchase.

an OEM drive is still new, last time i checked.. wouldnt it be fraud to advertise it as OEM and not refurb if it was in fact refurb?

<< Ok they are advertising a 3 year warrenty on this drive....thats B.S >>

It looks to me that IBM is the one who is misleading everyone. NewEgg clearly states that it is Manufacturer's Warranty. If IBM refuses to honor the warranty, then they have not come clean to the reseller their limitations on this warranty.

Ok Let me put it this way...if Newegg claims there is a 3 year warrenty on this drive and on their invoice they say to call IBM for service....then after I call IBM they laugh at my ass and tell me to get an RMA from the vendor...who is screweing who here !?!?!?!?!

Newegg gives 30 day money-back guarantee. Kick your drive, call them and say it broke down, send it back, get your cash.

Are you sure that the hard drive you got is the exact same model as the one you ordered? I suggest you call Newegg and see what they say before you start bashing on them.

If I understand correctly NewEgg sold you an OEM IBM 20GB Hard Drive. They advertsied it as being under a 3 year warranty by IBM.

Upon recieving the drive you find out that IBM refuses to warranty it as it was sold to Dell originally and NewEgg also will not warranty it?

If the above is correct then...yes I'd say you have a legitimate complaint.
NewEgg advertised the drive as having a 3 year warranty, when in fact the drive has NO warranty to the end user, only to Dell.

That'll teach you to not buy IBM again. Though I agree Newegg made a mistake not getting verification on the warranty information. Both Maxtor and WD would have taken the drive back, no questions asked, regardless of who or how many people possessed drive before you.

Yeah I gotta agree Newegg screwed you. If the drive was sold to Dell then they should make that clear when you bought it. Tsk - tsk! And I liked Newegg!

Newegg should have warrantied that drive just as good customer service. Have you talked to them? Tell them they mislead you on the warranty and explain your situation. If that does not work threaten legal action, have your lawyer write a nastly letter and see what happens (this would cost more than a new drive, so up to you).

I normally buy Maxtor HD's but unfortunately I needed it in a hurry and they were sold out of Maxtors at the time
