My next door neighbor has the gigantic rott. They keep it locked up but it gets out from time to time. Yesterday it got loose and was in my yard. I am now afraid to go to the mailbox or to do simple chores in the yard without carrying a heavy weapon. Laugh all you want, I am scared of those stupid things. They kill more people than any other breed.

Why do people have to have these enormous dogs that can kill people? It's stupid. When you can't even feel safe in your rural neighborhood where there is absolutely no crime because your neighbor has a giant, vicious dog, it's pretty bad.

Update - March, 13.

My other neighbor on the opposite of me stopped me today and asked me if I had seen the rottweiler. I told her yes. She then tells me that stupid beast chased her husband from his car into his house. The infernal cur scratched and clawed their front door as it tried to tear it down.

So, the dog is violent and a potential threat to anyone in my neighborhood. This guy who was chased was merely going to his car when the dog came after him. They have a 1 year old daughter. The mother was telling me how sick it made her to think if had been her and her daughter going to the car. Her husband went to the owner of the dog and confronted her. Apparently the old woman is a bit off her rocker. He got nowhere with her. She said the dogs were secure, but they have been seen by me and by the other neighbor at least three times the past month running loose. Not only is there one rott, there's actually two, a male and a female.

We're all scared to death now to even go to our cars. DAMN YOU!!!!!!!!!!

Is your neighbor's dog viscious or are you simply afraid of it?

Find out about your areas dog laws.

Have you talked to your neighbors about your concerns?

No, I have not talked to them. They are reclusive. They stay inside almost all the time. Half of the time it looks like no one is even there. I am afraid to even go over there for fear of being mauled.

I had a rottie for 11 years and she was the biggist lush for attention you could imagine. I think you have a serious mental problem to be so scared of a big dog. Go get some help.

Agreed.

We had a Rott/St. Bernard mix that was 200 lbs. and stood 6+ ft tall on his hind legs. Scared the crap outta everybody, but he was the nicest dog I've ever seen.

Wussy.

Lots of people are scared of dogs. That isn't a mental problem. I for one hate big dogs and would love it if for some reason they all died.

I have owned dogs for most of my life, and I have no fear whatsoever of dogs. I always find it a little strange when people are so terrified of these animals. I think some people have been watching too much Cujo......

Has this dog done anything that would cause concern? Does it growl at you, for example?

You have a telephone? Try calling them.

I seriously doubt, however, that if you knocked on their door you'd have any problems. It sounds like your fear of dogs is interfering with your ability to follow your daily routines.

I have seen some very small dogs (chihuahua) be ten times more viscious than any rott. Laughable? See how you feel when a tiny ball of fury launches snapping teeth at you. Small dogs are easily fended off, but they can still do damage.

The point is, you need to deal with your fear, not condemn them.

I prefer large, strong dogs (especially Rotts) because they are much more fun to play/fight with. You can play rough with them without them getting hurt.

I live on the ground floor of a 3 story apartment building. A few weeks ago I was coming home from work (around midnight) and opened up the security door to get inside the building. There was this pitbull sitting there, not doing nothing agressive or anything, just sitting there. A few seconds later the girl who lives in one of the third story apartments came walking down the steps. She let the dog out to take a piss, of course the dog ran down the steps to the door while she walked behind him. Now this dog wasn't acting in an agressive manner at all, but I know what they are capable of. (A friend of mine at my old job had to watch as the doctors amputated his son's leg after a pitbull attacked him 2 years ago.) My 2-year-old son lives with me. IMO, it not only was my right to call the manager's office, it was my duty. The safety of my son far, far outweighs anybody's right to own a dangerous animal...especially in an apartment building with kids living there. The next day an animal correction's truck was parked outside my building...I haven't seen the dog since.

Why? I am sure there is an animal that you wouldn't mind if they all died. Mosquito? Horse Fly? Bat? Piranha?

I have just the opposite reaction. My Ex-Girlfriend had a rottweiler / russian wolfhound (it was very unique), but it was definitely mostly rottweiller. Emit (the dog) has definitely changed my opinion of the breed. I would own one if I didn't work and goto school so much. THey are smart dogs and are only mean if you train them to be mean. Emit is the biggest baby you'd ever meet. He LOVES kids and never ever has even growled let alone bite a child.

Now, I will say that I still won't accept a pit bull into my house...

Most people are smart enough to realize that if an entire species was eradicated it'd totally fvck the entire eco system. No matter how "annoying" or "scary" they are.

From the article:

"It's not a Rottweiler problem or a pit bull problem," said Randall Lockwood, the Humane Society's vice president for research and educational outreach. "It's a people problem."

I think it's a mental problem. I consider a phobia to be a mental problem. It's like being scared of heights... it's not completely irrational, but it's definitely overexaggerated in that person's mind.

Anyways, these dogs can be dangerous, there's no doubt about it. If they are, it's not the animal's fault, though. Properly trained Rottweilers and Pit Bull terriers can be incredibly sweet and gentle dogs.

My sister had a Rottweiler. She had it sense it was a puppy. It did get really big. Like about 150 pounds. Heck it weighted more than me and still does. She gave it to someone else though. Not exactly sure why. But it was a really sweet dog but i know not all dogs are very sweet. Some can be very mean.

Umm dogs aren't really that big a part anymore since they have been domesticated, but I do relize some harm could come but it wouldn't bother me.

Just because it's a pit doesn't mean it's automatically a vicious dog.
